Under Bonnet Insulation

Post by kevGLT » 07 Jun 2005 10:23 pm

Hi folks, new to the forum, can anyone out there help me to find some new 'egg box' style under bonnet insulation for my 360GLT. My car is 17 years old and the original stuff has gone all dry and 'flaky', and needs replaced. Would like to replace with the original spec. but would consider something similar. Tried Volvo but it is no longer made by them.
Cheers,
Kevin.

I have the same problem, so it's a good question! I suppose it must be very resistant against fire!

Welcome to you btw!

Hi mates,

On the 360, this protection becomes dry and fall into pieces. You can find some protection to replace it in different places:

- Protections for boats engines is very good and a lot cheaper than the car' ones. It's of course fire resistant.

- You may find the protection parts in a car center, sold in squares (1m x 50 cm) and you'll cut what you need. It's a little bit more expensive.

- You can also look in a camping car parts shop, where different type of noise protection are sell. In this case, it's the same, you buy a square that you cut.

Just be sure that the protection you want to buy is fire tested and has the CE certification.

After, there is a simple rule, the bigger the protection is, the less noise gets out, but the heavier it is....

You're noisy and fast, or you're quiet and slow

I have found a firm on the net that sell 'Noise Killer' foil faced underbonnet sound insulation for cars etc, they sell pre cut kits, but not for 300's. They also sell it by the sheet, it is self adhesive, and the cost is about £40:00 for a 1.2 mtr sheet.
Might be forced to give it a try because when I remove what is left of the original kit, I reckon my underbonnet panel is going to look very messy!

I've been toying with using a cut-down 'mat' style one from a 740/940.

cheers
