As above, even better if you're going to the BKV - for a 1989 GLT

Hi lads.
Seen one for sale recently in Germany. Way to much money.
Better to try and fix them if you can.
Cheers Mark.

Maybe, maybe not.

The main issue is the thermal cut-out, if you have a points file handy you could dress the contacts, then carefully bend the metal arm so the contacts are closed again.

The problems can range from:
A) being able to drive a bus through the gap between the TCO contacts.
B) TCO contact arm being rusted
C) TCO contact arm being bent to buggery due to previous tampering
D) non-existant TCO arm have rusted away / broken off
E) bad contact between spade terminals and TCO legs. (TCO is inserted into board and legs are bent over at 90 degrees. The spade terminals are riveted on top so just rely on being trapped rather than soldered.)
F) TCO shorted with piece of wire because of any of the above.

I'm up to speed on HR problems - I can have a look at it at the BKV if you like.

I might have one in the big box of spares I have, is it in a sort of metal box with holes in?

Didn't mean to come across as taking over on your project bud, just know how much you love electrics ;) Sounds like something for a wet gazebo project anyway

Anyone considered modifying a RC model ESC for this. I would expect they have a DC control line somewhere after the PWM input, just hope its not integrated on a chip, otherwise it should be possible to design an electronic replacement.

Sounds very complicated.

All that's needed is a direct replacement / same spec TCO, or subbing with an appropriate thermal fuse.

If you arnt worried about the device being the same, nearly all car resistor packs work, just the mountings that change. MPs solution is the more elegant though, original packs just look right... Even if you can't see it....

Probably right, esc is overkill, but I'm always thinking of efficiency. Resistor dump energy as heat, an esc is much more efficient but is not going to save much mpg really.
