Anywhere to buy a new sill?

Post by Number 47 » 13 Dec 2013 05:19 pm

Anyone know where I can get a 4 door sill? I see Skandix have them but they're prices and postage are a bit much.
Many thanks.

If you can find an aftermarket panel supplier on your patch that can get Klokkerholm stuff, then you can try that. Don't be surprised if you can't and don't be surprised if they're wanting loads of money (cf. German VAT @19%, UK VAT @20% and you don't need me to tell you what Irish VAT is).

Last time I got some it worked out (at today's exchange rate) about €83 for 1 and €160 for 3.

If I get any more idea in the meantime I'll let you know. Best bet is to catch someone going over the water to bring one back to at least take the sting out of shipping (besides which carriers usually don't cover car panels against damage.)

Cheers macplaxton. I have phoned a few uk suppliers who were advertising them online but not available anywhere I can see. I found some last night, Klokkerholm panels from Poland for €25. Will have to see what the courier costs will be. About €30 is the ballpark figure I am getting at the moment so I guess that's not too bad. Just the damage to worry about. Will have to make sure the seller packs them well.

Are the replacement sills just the outer skin? I've never seen a good picture of them.

yes, just outer skin.. A decent welder can just fabricate one....

Well it is and it isn't just the outer skin on the 4dr Klokkerholm one. It's the outer until half way under the back door, where it tucks in under the rear outer/wheel arch chunk, so it's not just a single curve with a flange panel.

As you've discovered too, there are plenty of folk advertising stuff they don't have to hand.

A supplier will have an account with Klokkerholm, they order on say a 4-week cycle. If you hit the cycle right you'll have it in maybe 2-3 weeks, if you're a day late, then maybe 6-7 weeks.

This is only pic I have to hand of the flange damage of 3 packaged together.

I'll see if I can remember where I stashed them as I said I'd take some pics.

Awesome, I had a nose around some of your stunning photos on flickr - epic work. On the sills, I do have a couple which I got the fleabay for about £1 (those were the days) and I have taken them to the welder whenever the blue basket needs sill-work and he always says they're the wrong part (which I doubt, maybe 3 door sills or early sills are different) or its easier to do it himself. Postage is always going to be the curse and I'd really only part with them to save a car that wasn't going to be modded or raced...but that's my prejudice... Ta bog
