Volvo 340/360 Diesel
Volvo 340/360 Diesel
Hi
I'm looking for a 340 or 360 diesel for a project, they weren't sold in my home country of Sweden so I'll try my luck here.
The only things I'm interested in of the car is the engine and drive train so the more beaten up and rusty the body is the better i feel about butchering it.
If they are rare/hard to find then maybe you can help me find a diesel engine that will bolt on to the 300 drive train, preferable turbo as i was thinking about doing that anyway but it's not required.

You could fit the VW D20 with a garrett t3 like they did to the XD-1.

Re: Volvo 340/360 Diesel
The Volvo 300 D16 drivetrain is essentially Renault based and similar to the B172 petrol model.
The equivalent motor from the Renault range is the 1596cc F8M or if you're looking for a turbo I think there is the 1.9 F8Q. The main issue with the transverse versions is where the vacuum pump for the brake servo is mounted at the flywheel end of the cylinder head. The Volvo version has a remote pump mounted on the front right of the engine or use an alternator with a combined vacuum pump.
I think the Renault Extra van had the F8M. Not sure about the other one.

Or a 400 TD, they are the same block still.
The worry I would have is destroying props with the torque.

Depends how they are driven, the 1.6 isn't megatorquey. 245k miles on this one, dunno how many it has had, but the current one is working. I think they are okay if the engine mounts are fine and clutch isn't getting dumped all the time.

Yes i thought so, and here's what i found on Wiki:macplaxton wrote:The Volvo 300 D16 drivetrain is essentially Renault based and similar to the B172 petrol model.

Again, i can't find a car, wreck or engine from the 400s, not sure if they were even sold here..End of 1988, a turbocharged version of the 1.9 D is sold on the R19, the engine will F8QT engine types, it will develop 95 HP din. It will also equip Megane 1, and the Volvo 440, Volvo 460, Volvo S40 and V40.
And for the Megane 1 and S40 the engine code doesn't match, the 1st gen S40 lists "D4192 T" as the 1.9 diesel, and the Megane 1 i think uses a F9Q, at least the ones i found for sale.
As for the vacuum pump it doesn't really matter as the package isn't going back into a Volvo 300s, so firewall clearance ain't that big of a deal.

Re: Volvo 340/360 Diesel
The Volvo and Renault engine codes are different. They don't match.
F8M, F8Q, F9Q. Clio, Scenic, Kangoo, etc. Just sniff around any 1990s Renault diesel and see what you find. Unless they are all secretly abducted by the government it shouldn't be a problem finding one.

Re: Volvo 340/360 Diesel
The Volvo 340 Diesels are cheap in Holland, because of new tax rules all the diesel versions are getting scrapped. So you could search on www.marktplaats.nl for a Volvo 340 diesel

Thanks, but the only Dacia Pickups being sold here are 2010s or newer.alf wrote:Hy, you shoud try to seek one of Dacia Pickup 1.9 D :

Thank you all for your help, but I think I've found a better donor vehicle.
