Solex Z10 Carb
Solex Z10 Carb
After a decent condition used carb for the 1.7 340, It's the Solex Z10.
Mine has a warped base, and despite my best efforts it still has an air leak and drives like crap
Any help/advice on where to aquire one would also be much appreciated, cheers!

Have you tried to level the base?
Take a pane of glass (or something similar of which you are sure that it is absolutely flat), stick a sheet of 400-800 grade sandpaper to it and to wetsand your carb base by "running" your carb base over it in a slow circular motion, making sure not to tilt it along the way.

It's warped rather badly and probably beyond saving, but if i get time i will give this a go, ideally i want a replacement to bolt on and set up, this is proving quite hard to find!

Must be all hiding in the "mac cave". Where is mac by the way? He loves those carbs. Nobody else does!
Re: Solex Z10 Carb
Mac gave me a lot of useful information regarding it, unfortunately the rebuild was no good due to the base, shame

Re: Solex Z10 Carb
Hi Dan, excuse my ignorance.
when I removed my Z10 there were two "bases" - you've got the bottom of the metal carb., then a 4mm approx. black (plastic / rubber?) base, then at the very bottom, a 15mm base - mine has these numbers on the bottom: 61644530.
I've just checked - it's downstairs on my kitchen table!!
Are you talking about the thicker 15mm base? or the smaller 4mm one?
I'm not sure if I can help yet. I'm not very technical!

Re: Solex Z10 Carb
Hey man, I think its the metal carb base that looses its flatness. I've just read some of your post in the other thread - sounds like a super car - keep up the great work.

Re: Solex Z10 Carb
Yeah Bogbasic, I thought about it afterwards - Dan 91 must be saying that the base of the actual metal bottom / base has warped. Doh! I got it wrong again!
I do love my 340 Bog but I just don't think I can do it. I can't afford mechanics fees and I don't trust them anyway. The probable front spring, probably a load of brake work (about which I know zero) and at least 2 bits of welding are all beyond my ability - and that's if I can get a choke cable (which I can't) & manage to get the carb / air filter housing all settled down.
I've got the 1990 Fiesta in my garage to fix (bodywork) & I simply have to have a legal car by the end of May (gotta go to Ireland to sort out my Mum's headstone - need a car over there & got hammered by car hire last year).
I have taken some pictures of the 340 & will try to learn how to upload them tonight - you might not think it's such a great car after seeing the photos!
thanks for the reply & kind words
