Heater valve needed

Post by Ride_on » 26 Oct 2015 12:54 am

Heater control valve, as sits in the engine bay. For a mk3 any non-ac 300, not sure about earlier versions. needs to be non-leaky.

Mine is leaking at the linkage pin.

Thanks, I've ordered the Polar LHD German 940 one, so will see it fits first.

Got the 940 valve today, and looks like it will fit, but it has a boss/spud for cable hoop attachment, whereas the 300 is a hook/hole, so this would be easy to accomodate with a bit of cutting and drilling.

However testing the valve for closed-off-ness by blowing through the valve or filling it with water it does not seem well sealed. Water trickles out of the inlet side under gravity in about 5-10s. (it doesn't leak outside the valve)

Anyone think this is normal, will it not lead to a warm heater in the summer?

Arse just got it home and compared it, the control is reversed, and the old one has better closed-off-ness, so its not a goer.

That sounds in line with leaky valves I've removed in the past ... If it's leaking under gravity already that's not a good sign, you would notice it with a warm heater in summer.

But if the fit is a no go as well, then I guess it doesn't matter either way ...

Cheers
