Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
Yeah im guna need it all i can find is renault 5 engines and i believe the only one thats a simple swap is the gt5 engine.. which commands a premium im thinkin about just goin 1.4 turbo but thatl cost me a mint to part up
Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
Dumb question, but can you explain what you mean by eating the air box bolts?

Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
The three studs that bolt the air box to the carb, theyv been loose and iv had to put other bolts in, they came loose again unbeknown to me and a bolt n washer dropped into the carb, managed to get the bolt but the washers in there somewhere, probably mashed into the bottom of the head. I had the rocker off, push rods n valves look ok on top, no1 spark plug was smashed, waved a magnet about n replaced spark plugs and shes ratteling like hell. Shes my daily driver and im a bit footaad, it seems nobody bothered keeping the 1.4's as i cant fine one anywhere atall
Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
Well I don't see how a stud could have got through the carb in to the engine, but it is a real simple job to take the head off.olie30 wrote:The three studs that bolt the air box to the carb, theyv been loose and iv had to put other bolts in, they came loose again unbeknown to me and a bolt n washer dropped into the carb, managed to get the bolt but the washers in there somewhere, probably mashed into the bottom of the head. Talk to Mac about a refurbished carb and let's see what state the engine is in, take the head off, gaskets are still easy to obtain.
Where do you live? Sure somebody lives near you to help
Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
As I say its only a washer thats found its way through, the three studs were in the carb ports and two washers were strewn about and the third washer is nowhere to be seen. The knock she has when running is painful. Il be taking the head off asap but shes stuck outside my place two miles from my workshop.. which is full of e30 and its associated engines iv killed haha. Atm id rather seperate the inlet and swap the engine for simplicity but these b14s seem to be somewhat illusive
Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
Get that head off, probably just need to fix that.
Parts can be sorced, lets see how bad the damage is

Thankyou guys, il be taking the manifold off in a bit n if i find nothing that way then heads coming off. Lol Mark, i like the way you think mate
Re: ole reliables hit self destruct

Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
Heads off, carbs okay, theres big chunks outa the head just under the spark plug and a bit of washer welded onto the piston that has been mashing up against the head. Id say new engine i cant be arsed to change just the head when a pistons compromised. I was lookin at a fresh c1j engine.. but the compression ratios 7:9:1, way way lower than n/a setup... now i dont know what the hell to do
Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
Put a request out for a cylinder head and piston, more likely to be able to be found.olie30 wrote:Heads off, carbs okay, theres big chunks outa the head just under the spark plug and a bit of washer welded onto the piston that has been mashing up against the head. Please message Mac as he has lots of bit and is more likely to be able to help

Re: ole reliables hit self destruct
You in Warwickshire? Have you thought of upgrading to a 1.7? People tend to sell them after doing engine swaps so might be more about?
