It's one part I don't need if I get that car, still seems a shame to break it though but then, when doesn't it? AFAIK (don't have VADIS in front of me) the renault and 400 ones are different, but scrappies always have 1.7's in if not.

A scrappy is probably your best bet. You'll probably get one for a tenner and as Chris says, there's plenty of 1.7s about to rob one from. Your other option is to take it off and take it down an engineering shop who could patch it up.

£500 is a bit steep too!! Say labour would be £50, that's £450 for a manifold and gaskets. Surely not. Even the MR2's new manifold from Toyota only cost £80.

Yeah, a new manifold from Volvo would cost about 250 quid cos on those the inlet/exhaust manifold is all in one casting.....

Anyway, would take me probably a couple of hours to fit and fix so should take a garage about an hour or so.

I'm fairly sure that scrappys should have 1.7s knocking about for you to get a manifold from and won't cost much. Just make sure to put a straight edge on the flange where the carb bolts on making sure it hasn't warped. If it has then you MIGHT be able to file or machine it down flat but ideally get one that hasn't warped :)

Ah ok, didnt realise they weren't cross flow engines. That makes things a bit more expensive all round then, but still not sure it would be £500!

I'd get on the phone tomorrow Krista and see if any of your local scrapyards have a 1.7 you could raid!

is that one of those online jobs? they're useless. phone up your local scrapyard and ask if they've any 300s in - they cant be arsed to actually check them for exhausts etc as its a lot of work

try 'gw bridges' in crawley - its a bit of a trek for you (and me, but it's my local!!) but its the biggest in the country - i've never been when they've *not* had a 300 in stock..

If you're still stuck, I might be passing my 'local' one tomorrow, where there is always a 1.7! I wanted to find a 1.4 but they had three 1.7's some months ago. I'll see what I can find.

There may be one in mine still, which I'll probably take a visit to on Friday. Although getting hold of it might be a problem due to distance!
