if you see a vgc 360 carb or 340 1.7, then let me know. must have no rust at all. prefer toys to a gl. not in a rush.

700 estate would do too, but again i'd prefer a 2l carb (if that engine was possible)

It does look good - getting rare now too, I was going to take a look out of interest as it's only about 3 miles from me. Get a train up and get it, I doubt it will shift quickly.. people don't want old cars anymore.

That's the man :) Knew it wouldn't be long ;)

Ebay...Autotrader...you know where to look.

740 Carb engines are auto-choke, and as a 2.0 probably badly beaten - lot of weight for not much power to lug around. Beware...

cheers

carb because the 1.7 and 2.0 are equally economical as each other, and the most economical cars around. trip along the coast in james's car showed that up.. and i normally have a similar driving style. the cars do feel slow compared to the glts, but the nature of the engine suits my driving style more (changing at low revs to get reasonable power, rather than reving it up high)..

The main reason it probably felt slow was a combination of the hills on that road, and the weight of three fatties on board ;) I mean the three of us put together would have made that car weigh what a 740 saloon does!

Of course I'm not claiming for a moment that the carb version isn't slower, but I think you'll be surprised the first time you take one out for a spin on your own...

For what it's worth, I think the GLT is the least impressive 300 there is. Given that its supposed to be the sports model, the economy is a fair chunk worse than the others, and its not that quick. If I'd had the choice 12 years ago, I'd be driving a GLT now.....but in a way, with hindsight...I'm not so sure it was a bad decision!

cheers

I've been driven in one unladen (briefly), but I've never driven one. There's obviously an appriciable difference, but its only 10 bhp at the end of the day. Now a hot cam, a 531 head, and a set of twin carbs.....

cheers
