For anyone breaking a 340 1.4 or 1.7 I am after the return spring that goes from the realease fork to the bellhousing. Needed ASAP.

its not the one i was thinking of.

The bolt that stops it traveling too far. and i havent seen that spring yet in thre transmission i have or on the bellhousing that went on my volvo last year when i blew my release fork..

so it must not be that important.

As I said on the Phone I have never seen a spring on a 340 clutch fork. Now is that because they have all been removed at some point or was it a 1 year only thing that they were fitted. I bet Mac would know

Yep! of course Mac knows.

Up to and including 1980 year model the manual clutch was fitted with a "non rotating" release bearing with the release arm held retracted by the "subject" spring. (on these cars clutch adjustment is measured by free play at the release arm).

However - from 1981 cars were fitted with "rotating" release bearings held in contact with the clutch cover fingers, again by a spring, but in this case fitted to the clutch pedal (RH side of the pedal 1/2 way up running forward to the pedal box). Clutch adjustment now carried out by pedal height. Also the release arm gaiter changed to fully cover the cable to arm connection. (on early cars the cable connecting nuts were exposed to allow for adjustment).

Assuming you're later than 81 Adam - you don't need the bellhousing spring.

It looks like "Vadis" has done a "Haynes book of lies" and not updated the parts picture - it's certainly the pre 81 version shown.
