Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help - I am after a radiator for my 340. It started leaking last week. The other half managed to rad weld but not sure how long this will last as it has leaked a little bit since but not much.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi! Well, Radweld is not ideal as a longterm repair, it'll just about do as a temporary bodge or to get you home, but IMO doesn't do anythng much good. I had to use a couple of bottles of it in one of my cars to get me home when my rad sprung three leaks, it did seal it up enough to get me home amazingly, but I made sure I flushed any traces of it out when I replaced the rad!
As for finding a radiator, would you be after a second hand one in very good condition, or trying to find a reputatable source of a cheapish new one? Ebay may be your friend in both cases. Do be aware that the radiators do differ between the models, I think there are thinner rads for the earlier 340's and I'd imagine a 360 rad is very different, but I've not inspected a 1.7 rad closely to compare.

1.7 rad is the same as a late 1.4 rad, both are full sized.

If you can, get a new one. Used ones will almost always be rusty / clogged up / leaky at this age. There are still several after-market manufacturers selling radiators for the 300, they're not hard to get hold of (yet).

Advanced Radiator's are good but not sure if they are a national company....they'll re-core/exchange or supply new! When I was a lad we used egg's instead of Radweld
I'd backflush the cooling system before I fitted a new rad,its easy enough to do. Oh sometimes Ebay have rads for sale......

Here're some on UK Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0180104215
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0155412880
which are advertised as being for a 1.7.
But perhaps someone else can double check these to see if they really are the right ones, you sometimes have to be careful with what people write in their Ebay ads

Hi Clare,
Euro Car Parts still list the late B14 / B172 under part no.203660130 for £79.00 (+vat ?). It's listed as made by Nissens which is a well known manufacturer and as rads go it's not a bad price. With Euro if you don't have a local branch you can buy online.
