"345 vario" rear differential wanted!! (urgent)

Hi Guys! I'm really worried about my sister's car...it has broken the rear differential and here, in italy, is pratically impossible to find a new or an used one!
Now the car is stopped about 3 months lonely on the road.

The car is a 1990 volvo 345 14.4e variomatic very well manteined, and has only 24.000 miles on clock because it was used by an old woman and always kept in a box. Now many parts have been changed like starter motor or drivebelts and so on...

I know that the car goes to the scrapyard if it can't be used until some months... :'(

I continue to hope well...

Bye!

Hi,

On the CVT cars the "differential" is built into the secondary drive unit (the unit with the rear set of pullys). Is it the actual diff that has failed ? (very rare unless from total oil loss) or is the failure to do with the secondary drive or driveshafts ? Do you know what the actual failure is ?

The repairer, an old volvo official repairer told me that the failure was the differential (which has worked for a while with the "slow gear" mode).
I'll ask again tomorrow the repairer about the actual fault to be more accurate...
Thanks

Hi,

This really doesn't sound like a true differential failure (the diff is a planetary gear set arranged to allow differing wheel speeds from side to side) your reference to working in "slow gear" mode makes me feel that the problem lies in the CVT system (the actual mechanism for changing gear ratios). This could be a mechanical, electrical, or a vacuum problem.

If the diff itself had failed all drive would be lost.

Try to post an accurate descriptions of the actual symptoms - there is always a chance that things are not as bad as they first seem!

I asked today the repairer and he confirmed that the broken part is the differential (contained in the "CVT Secondary") now I can only hope to find an used one in good conditions somewhere...

Thanks 4 intresting...
