Smaller Steering Wheel?

Post by volvosneverdie » 13 Dec 2008 10:58 am

Hi all.
Being a gentleman of the larger variety (6ft4 and nineteen stone) im finding the old 'legs under the steering wheel' problem in my 340. Even when sitting with legs wide apart like some kind of appauling monkey in display mode.
I dont really want to change/alter the drivers seat, as the condition of the interior is very high.
So i was thinking of fitting a smaller wheel?
Unfortunatly, my technical knowledge and abililities stretch barely far enough to get me safely into a tin of beans and back, so i was hoping to tap the vast knowledge stored up here (again!).

Soooooooo, without any further ado, do we (you) know what would fit?
Hopefully retaining the 'horn on wheel' function. And hopefully summat not too over the top. Im not a rally driver or a semi pro drifter, i just need something a bit smaller so i can avoid cramp and pain on long journeys.

Cheers all.

Thats alright man, the rear view mirror obscures most of my view of the road anyway, might as well lose the guages as well!

The chrome chain link one looks mint man. I'll have to get one for the El Camino low-low im never going to be able to afford but still scour Ebay every day for. Come on the National Lottery! daddy needs a something that plays La Cucharracha when you press the horn.

I'll look into the 13 incher man, any increase in gap would be very well recieved, and that one really does look quite good on yours man. Never thought anything 'aftermarket' would look that stylish and sensible.

Cheers dude.

If someone can confirm whether GLT mk2 wheel is smaller than std mk2 wheel?
I'll have a look around the back o' the garage-think I've got a spare somewhere.

Failing that I think I've got a Momo Prototipo with a Pug boss.
But I paid canny conkers for that so I'd want me money back on that.Oh,and ya indicators won't self cancel once fitted.

Cheers Sven.

That wheel looks very nice. Couldnt strech to that money though. Thats a third of what the car cost, and im no Bill Gates.

Is indicator cancelation the same for all aftermarkets man?
and what happens to the beep-beep button?
Surely you need one to pass ticket?

Horn is in centre of wheel.
Most Pug bosses lose self cancel. There may be the odd V360/340 boss kickin' about-but not many I'd think.
If it ever stops raining and me cold does one I'll dig the GLT wheel out and measure it-that'll be cheap for sure. Can't think I'll ever need it or why I even kept it TBH.

Hmmm ... isn't a GLT steering wheel the same as the normal one, just with a different centre cap saying "GLT"?. I think that goes for MkIIs and MkIIIs ...

Sorry for being a spoilsport :-(
