Anyone got one going spare that they would like to exchange for some of my hard earned?

If you can give me a rough idea of shipping costs to near berwick (NE England)?

Also how do they fit on? Just drill through the boot im guessing?

Thanks James

You need LESS weight for 'testing surely dude?
Not more.

Theyre heavy old things.

*edit.

Excuse me sir?
I think youll find they provide crucial downforce and extra weight over the back wheels.

Possibly.

but they do make inadvertant boot slams inevitable.

I'm still undecided about that. I bought one a while back which is sitting in my garage still unfitted, i can't decide if i want it on the car or not, and i can't really bring myself to drill the boot.

Besides i guess i do like the more OAP look of it without. :)

i say, if it didnt come with one, then dont.
i loved the look of my 340 bare assed.
And now love the look of the glt with a spoiler.

have it as nature intended.

Well, I think MK2's look ok without a spoiler, but not so much Mk3's, maybe it's the differing bootlids/rear screens that does it... However, Mk1/2 with oem or like Tom's oettinger lip spoiler ftw

I drilled through my bootlid, there's 5 bolts holding it on, if you line the spoiler up there's holes on the underside of the bootlid, that are covered with circular bits of metal that u can just kinda push out. I Started off drilling a smallish hole then using bigger drill bits until the hole was the right size, using masking tape on the bodywork (in case the drill slipped), then you need a 10 mil socket on the end of a very long extension bar to tighten the bolts from the underside. I used some clear silicone aswell for protection from rain water around the base of where the spoiler meets the bootlid.

I would have looked well stupid if my back screen had broke, luckily,........ it didnt!

prob best to do this job with an assistant!

If anyone is wondering about the fitment, I seem to recall there's a guide in the green books on the site giving out measurements etc.

I would normally agree with this but its main purpose will be to hide most of the excrement paint work that I done on the boot

I know its extra weight but after doing the calculations the aerodynamic gains at speed should far outweight the cost of the extra weight  , plus im using the good old go faster stripe theory - if it looks like a race car then it'l go like a race car, all the kids in corsas and saxos are doing it round here so it must work aye?

You might need new boot strut malarkeys then man. If the powers are weak, expect clonks on the back of your head when youre trying to get a body/shopping out of the boot.

they are less than a year old the lad that had it before me put brand new ones on, can you mind how fast the boot goes up from the time we swapped it round, more weight might stop it from hitting me on the chin.

Any shopping is dealt with by the mighty fezza and bodies are fed to the sheep on the farm - urban myths suggest pigs are better but you try stopping a dozen starveing sheep the bodies can still be alive and they'l be gone in 10mins max

Your telling me!

Send an unsuspecting towny across a field with a bucket of sheep nuts and they don't stand a chance  They'll be ganged up on, floored, and disappear under a pile of wool...

There's a firmly established belief on this forum that Mk3 spoilers don't do anything for performance. They do. As a lad I used to run Mk3 GLT's from London to the Highlands on a regular basis. High speed overnight burns stopping only for petrol and cigarettes and slowing only for patrol cars. At about 85 (indicated), I could always feel the back end squatting down - various wobbles and vibrations would iron out, traction on slippery surfaces and stability with cross-winds would improve. I didn't maintain my cars very well back then, so rubbish tyres and shagged suspension made these effects more noticeable.

Depends how fast you like to drive I reckon - at legal speeds they're just 80's-tastic decor of questionable taste.

I agree with you Aaron, theres a great drift vid I linked to the other week that shows the aero effect in the tyre smoke he's putting down!
