You could import a RHD one from Ireland ... But would you want to for 54 very loud horses? A frugal car though ...
Does anyone on V3M own one (or knows someone who ownes one?)

Couldn't care how frugal it is... the diesel 340 is gonna be slow enough to be dangerous! Volvo safety eh...

I used to know someone who had one at the end of the nineties. He'd had it for a long time and used to drive to Berlin in it every week. I was a passenger in it once and remember it being pretty loud - even though they gave the diesel a whole lot more sound-deadening than the petrol versions.
As far as I remember, he scrapped it at around 375.000km, it had some electrical fault which he couldn't (be bothered to?) find, but the engine was still going strong ...
There're not many around over here now, high diesel tax (600 Euros a year) and no green "emissions sticker" means they're all but extinct.

I still reckon a 400 series turbo diesel conversion would be good in a 300... fairly powerful, wonder how the props would cope with the torque though.

there are 6 or 7 known in holland and that's about it. one of them is a saloon with a 1.9 renault diesel fitted; still on first prop.

They may well be extinct your end too

But diesels were sold in Ireland too as far as I am aware, so there should be some possibilities if someone in the UK is desperate for one. But that'd be a first
The diesel had lots of diesel-specific bits too, as far as I remember. Different fuel tank, different filler cap, different shocks and springs, more sound-deadening ... all not easy if you're trying to source parts for one.

diesel had a plastic version of the 360 fuel tank. the front gearbox mounting is 300 diesel specific, basically it is a 3point mounting as the normal 340 front gearbox mounting will conflict with the saddle tank. and, there is a vibration damper placed on the incoming shaft for the gearbox.
shocks and springs are like any normal 300
the sound deandening is indeed a different story!
hood isolation 50mm thick, extra isolation against the firewall, extra isolation on the plastic sump guard plate (or whatever you call that thing) and floorisolation all the way to the backseat..

Interesting stuff! Just had a look at the parts catalogue, the shocks are indeed no different, but the springs appear have their own part number.
I was wrong about them being extinct too, there are two on sale in Germany ATM. Not in great condition though ...

I shall keep my ear to the ground, someone may have one somewhere stuck on a farm running green juice.

I remember seeing one (or rather hearing it

) in France in 1992. A green colour, the only one I've ever seen. Didn't know you could get them at the time so was quite a shock. Be a good thing to have as a runabout in UK with current fuel prices, as a chipfat special
