Wanted (mk I) 360 GLT Alloys

Post by Swedehead » 19 Mar 2005 07:42 pm

Hi,

I am looking for a 'nice' set of mk I 360 GLT alloys c/w decent tyres for my girlfriend's newly purchased 340 1.7 GL. Would consider other alloys apart from mk II GLT alloys.

I'm in Worcestershire but will travel to surrounding areas.

Thanks,

Swedehead (newboy to the site)

Don't blame you.. why else are mine sitting in the shed ;) The early GLT alloys are, however pretty hard to find! Though saying that, you've come to the right place if some do come about! If you didn't know, 400 series wheels fit 300 series Volvos without a problem and come in alot of nice styles!

Thanks Steve. You say that 400 series wheels will fit but is the offset ok. I would have thought they might be different as the 400 is front wheel drive?

Have your mk II alloys got tyres on? I've been looking at lots of different wheels and I think it's going to be difficult to find some to suit the 340. The 400 series may look a bit too modern!!

I've read about the offset considerations before - it seems that the offset may vary by a small amount, but not enough to affect fitting the 400 wheels to 300s significantly. Alot of people have done it and I don't know of any problems in doing so! Though you will need alloy wheel nuts as steel wheel nuts on alloy wheels can dig into the rim.

Heres a few examples of some 300s with 400 alloys, some of the styles can fit quite nicely:

Early 400 14" - Easily sourced and cheap!

Late 400 14" on my car:

Late 400 15" alloys on foggyjames' car:

In my opinion most of the 400 series alloys look good on the 300 series Volvos. Mine are slightly too rounded - but were cheap. My old Mk2 alloys do have tyres on them, but they're poor and the alloys aren't in great condition.

These late 400 rims can look good on a 300 series too:
