OK, it's confirmed. The sunroof dimensions are indeed 88,5 x43 cm.
foggyjames wrote:Interesting development...I can't remember exactly *why* I came to this conclusion (some common part...possible the seal?), but it appears that the 300 series metal panel and the 480 (note: not 440/460?!) GLASS sunroof may be the same shape and size.
Risto has some interesting theories on which sunroofs fit a 300, I'll let him elaborate on that himself though! They involve the glass sunroof of a 780 Bertone

Hehe....a nice common part, then? I assumed that 780s had the same panel as 740/760s.

Bare in mind that various wierd rumours come out of the US, mainly because they never had (or had very few) 940s with glass sunroofs (because their 940s stopped in...er...1994?)...they they always refer to them as "960 moonroofs", and get very excited about them. I have a feeling the 780 one was glass too...but obviously much earlier. That might explain why some may call it "special"...it is in fact simply 'rare'. Of course I may be very wrong, and it is different! Just don't believe the yanks all of the time ;)

Edit: Nevermind, it's not listed on the English version.. Found it from the German site. ;)
Well, 2.7 metres of sunroof seal arrived yesterday, marked "Sunroofseal 1303 original". I emailed the webshop to ask if it was the right one, and they replied saying the 1303 Beetle and the Mk1 Golf use the same sunroof seal.

We shall see ...

Seal

Post by workshopmanualman »

Hi,

are we to assume that this is the correct seal then?

http://www.hoffmann-speedster.com/us/prod/optik_6.asp

Would be interesting if it is!

Hang on to your wallet for the time being. IF the 1303 seal is the same as a Golf Mk1 and IF that is the same as a 300 sunroof seal then the right part from that site would be "Seal for metal sliding roof 1303, piece of 2.7 meters"

But let me try it out first, I should know more in about a week ...

Hi Tom, thanks for that - I wasn't personally going to dip into my wallet again quite so quickly. I just like to tick all the bases re: finding parts should I ever need anything. You're doing stirling work in finding these things in the first place by the way.

Great news! Now I'll have to get one for myself too. :P I found a place here in Finland which sells same stuff, Bug/T1/T2/T3 etc... parts and they seem to have the 1303 sunroof gasket listed in their catalog. I just sen't them email about the price.

Good news, I'll be getting one of them....

Also, I've been trying to figure out if any other contemporaries shared the same sunroof panel... Golf/BMW's of the same era have Golde factory roofs fitted - does anyone know any more about this?

480 sunroof panels aren't the same, the sunroof panel is 93x54mm as informed by the 480 club... and is apparently only tilt, not sliding!

I wonder if anything shares the same panel!?

I bought one 1303 VW Beetle sunroof seal too. It's identical. 8)
