Does anyone have the correct sunroof dimensions for a MkIII 300 ?
Does 88.5 cm x 43 cm sound OK?

Cheers,

Tom

Mine's got some underside rust. I've been thinking about making one out of glass fibre and renew the badly worn seal at the same time.. :P

just discovered today that my sunroof panel has started letting in a little water :( looks like the headlining may have to come out at some point

Is that the reason for the sunroof leak then? I take it common? Mines leaking but thought it might just be the sealmine seems to run along the headlining and lets the water leak out the back on the boot floor lol!

They shouldn't leak even if the seal is crap... as the water will just run into the aperture and down the drain holes.

It can leak even if the water passages are open.. Mine's a bit miss aligned (rear of the panel goes too low so there's a small gap) and combine that with a worn seal, you'll get water inside too in heavy rain when the car is moving because it won't stay in the drain passages.

Anyone know if there's a suitable seal available for the sunroof for less price than at the dealer.. I think +60€ from a one seal is quite high price.. Though if there aren't any other options I'll have to buy one from the dealer.. Old VW's used Golde sunroofs too so maybe something from those would fit.

I recently asked at Volvo about the availability of a sunroof seal (part no 3278164) and they were NLA. However, RLL (Risto) says that sunroof seals from a Golf Mk1 will fit - and these cost 30 - 40 Euros. Both had Golde sunroofs.

Sunroofs add weight and are a pain if they don't work properly (leaks, wind noise etc.), however they're still a nice accessory to have IMO. When I was out looking for my GLT I actually wanted one WITH a sunroof (rare over here, standard on many cars in the UK ... ) Maybe I'll regret it one day, I dunno :?

Hmm where would I be able to get one for MK1 Golf then, any web shops? Or does the VW still sell those? :P

Ok, thanks, though I can't seem to be finding one from the webshop, or then I'm just blind.. I click seals and it shows nothing for MK1 Golf.

Edit: Nevermind, it's not listed on the English version.. Found it from the German site. ;)

Interesting development...I can't remember exactly *why* I came to this conclusion (some common part...possible the seal?), but it appears that the 300 series metal panel and the 480 (note: not 440/460?!) GLASS sunroof may be the same shape and size. Does anyone have a 480 sunroof to try in a 300 series roof?

I'd buy a seal for 60 Euros...if they were still available. Remember that it's primarily an acoustic seal though....not a water-tight seal (although I'm sure it helps!).

I think the ultimate solution involves an angle grinder, a clean donor 'solid' roof, and a welder ;)

cheers

Or the stock glass sunroof... they rock!

I don't think I saved the sunroof from my 480, but I'll look when I go home!
