^Noted..... Hopefully I'll get to use them figures, I'm running out of hope that I'll ever solve this problem.
Kinda thinking about getting another cheap car to run about in while I collect 16v bits... Really don't want to though. Frustration.. How the hell is this problem still beating me?!!?
EDIT: I bet it's something stupid...

hahahaha
reminds me of something, in holland we sometimes say:
als de techniek 100% in orde is, kan de fout zich enkel nog tussen stuur en stoel bevinden. op de een of andere manier komt dit nogal vaak voor bij vrouwen.
when the technique is 100% o.k., the fault can only between the steering wheel and the seat. for some reason this usually is the case with women.
just kiddin.
with what procedure do you start, full throttle, full choke, full choke no throttle, half choke little throttle etc.??

Strangely enough my dad just suggested the exact same thing:D
Not that though, choke is functional and returns to the off position just fine...

Generally I try with the choke off first.. Then with the choke on.. Then I'll give it a few pumps on the throttle when that don't work.. Please please tell me I'm doing it wrong:D

with the choke on, you allready make the mixture richer than normal, if you pump extra throttle to that it will instantly flud.
cold engine: try full choke, and crank till she starts, then easaly put choke off till rev counter says about 1200 rpm
warm engine: no choke, half throttle, crank till she starts, then release throttle

Cool... i just had some success with choke off, throttle when it tries to start, then half choke.. Full choke killed it, as did no choke, for the first minute or two.. About an hour and a half since it was last run...I will take it for another spin now, leave it another 30 min, so be sure the problem is back, then try your method..
My god I'll feel like a total idiot if its' me... Although to be fair on myself, it's not obvious or anything!! I'll be like that girl in Sin City.. "No one but me can get this thing running"

full choke.
Spin.
stand gas flat.
life.
half choke for 2 mins.
no choke.
joy.
pump it and it floods.
no choke and it'll start if its not too cold.
but its a good antitheft device.
Had to teach me dad how to do it right as he thought there was something wrong with it.
I just didnt want to say 'are you sure you know how to start it propperly?'
Sounds a bit condisending.
Re: 1.7 340 not starting...... Any help appreciated!
Cool..I think I've tried that one, but it was probably after pumping the pedal loads on full choke!
If this works in 30-45 min after the little drive i've just been on, then I'm officially an idiot and deserve all the 'condescending' I get:D
I have tried a whole bunch of combos already.. I thought I was cool with chokes after me old renault 5, but I've not tried the one volvodspec mentions, and most of the rest were after full choke and a few pumps at least.
I'm gonna have to remember not to pump the peda when starting... I shuould get it tattooed on the back of my hand or something..
Had a little traffic light drag race with a vaguely boy-racer looking Polo just now, Kicked his ass:D it was probably the 60bhp ish 1.4 like my old one though, r maybe even smaller:D
Mah 1.7 kicked its' arse tho:D
Can not wait for more power:D:D

don't think that you went trough the rest for no reason though, that floater was rubbish and new ignition parts never do harm
with my 1.4 manual 5 speed i win dragraces against 360i models
at wet full wheelspin in 1st and 2nd gear
. not even mentioning my other 340 with a cvt, that beats everything from a standstil!, good service is everything
i wonder what will happen after i finished my projectcar, will be very interesting aswell.

Re: 1.7 340 not starting...... Any help appreciated!
Well I just tried it with no choke, 50 minutes after a good run, and no throttle, and it started right up!! I'm confused, I'm still not sure if I dreamed the problem up or what:D
I'm sure I'd tried that, that's the first thing I did the first time this happened!
So yeah, I'll give it a while and try it a few more times before I take it as solved, but yeah, I think it may have just been me being a 340 noob:D
I think I'm now I'm confidant enough to drive the 45 miles needed to see everyone I know! Haven't seen anyone in about a week now, I'm starting to go a bit crazy here all by myself:D
Just had a look at your project link, I don't speak dutch though (dammit), what's the engine?

suiped up b14
car is on this forum aswell: http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =13&t=7946
engine has about 140bhp to start with, after the big rebuild it still needs to run easy the first 800 miles. after that, other carb + higher boost, hoping to get at least 180bhp out of it to start with
