360 diff gaskets required. Where sells them?

Post by OapEM »

As per my other post, I need gaskets for my B19 360's diff. I rang two Volvo dealers and both say they can't get them, one also reckons that the classic parts service doesn't list them either.

Anyone know of somewhere else I can find them? I need the diff case to gearbox gasket and also the diff inspection plate gasket.

I made my own from 0.8mm oil resistant gasket paper last time and they are up the job I'm sure. We had no instant gasket and the shops were closed at the time so had no choice but to reassemble with just the paper gaskets!

I've been advised by a Volvo tech to make new paper gaskets and use in conjunction with blue hylomar gasket compound.
This stuff:

It sounds impressive from what I have read. Anyone had any experience?

The 'Universal blue' name is familiar, I have definitley used that before. Don't recognise the Hylomar name though.

I'm very tempted to clean the outer surface of the diff/box and see if I can seal or at least slow down the leak first.

Thanks again V3M 340pw

Diff gaskets -> buy a Mac kit.

Mac has made and sells (at what I reckon can only be a loss... but if you've ever met Mac you'll almost be able to understand, one of the nicest blokes in Volvoland)

There is a sticky at the top of this very forum labeled "gaskets"

EDIT: Beaten to it ;)

Hylomar
...is THE stuff everyone is useing here. it's even officially used by the german military (which however not always is an indicator for quality ;) )

but be carefull with it and less is more when it comes to hylomar. what you use to much will be squeezed out when reassambling. that might close your oil intake pipe when you use hylomar to seal the sump etc.

Always use the correct dimension and spec of gasket paper for the diff-gear box joint (not sure which one is critical in the 5 speed maybe both), otherwise your gearbox will whine as the gasket forms part of one of the gearbox bearing pre-loads.
