good evening all, attempting to get my exhaust sorted this weekend before test on monday.
just wondered what diameter the torque tube is so i can get a new center exhaust hanger clamp. also is there anywhere to get new hangers from? ie the one thats made out of crappy steel? or is it make a new one time? im considering jsut doing 2 strips down each side of the clamp, to the back of the exhaust box...

Re: torque tube dia. and center exhaust mount
Mine measures about 85mm, but my callipers are only just long enough to reach the middle point.
The original works like a clamp rather than a 'hanger'. It would still move vertically then and rattle around and move sideways. You won't need it for a test I think but if you want you exhaust to last and be quiet you should make it similar to the original bracket. I have seen cars with only the rear bracket on the back box holding the entire exhaust from the manifold.
The original bracket is like a large exhaust clamp (non-volvo type, U bolt) with some sheets of metal with 4 bolt holes and curves for the bracket/torque tube and the exhaust, the plate is bolted the side of the U bolt cross bracket. You can use a single sheet, I don't think you will notice much difference in noise or what ever reason they used muliple sheets.

Re: torque tube dia. and center exhaust mount
cheers man, i managed to get the original u bolt back into shape and make up some 'mounting strips' out of galvanised steel, rather than the crappy volvo pressed sheet flexi thing. exhaust is on and seems pretty good.

Yeah, bits of angle or anything work fine. The Volvo thin steel plates are so crappy they seem to rust in about ten minutes. Weird, Volvo normally over-specced parts but this is a sure case of underspec'd
