Big ends for '86 B200E
Mine only uses a very little oil, but I don't know the history of the car.
From the look of it, the way the driver's seat is ripped, and all the engine covers etc were on with twisties or cable clips and half the electrics weren't working I'd say it had a hard life.
Like you say there's no rush, but I reckon I'm gonna do it in the summer time, and if I install a scrappy engine in the car, it keeps it going and gives me time to research and do the work properly.

I can't see parts being unavailable - for example as far as I'm aware the big end bearings will be the same ones to be found in a B230 from 1998.

right, I phoned the dealer and everything is still available, gaskets, rings pistons, valves, bearings etc.
Apart from the oil pump, but the oil pressure light seems to go off OK so hopefully that should be OK, if the spring's short I might be able to get a machine shop to remake one for me.
I phoned up Braydon who have a B200E in stock but the price tag is 170, which seems a bit steep, so any ideas sourcing an engine- doesn't have to be in great condition, as long as it runs OKish to get me by whilst I rebuild my lump- would be appreciated.
I've got the B19/B200 engine green book, so that should cover everything.

Hi there Pettaw, I may be able to help you with sourcing an engine! It is currently in an 86 D 360 GLT, a crashed car, side impact, so engine bay is untouched, low mileage engine. It hasn't run for a while, but I have heard and seen it running, and it did sound fine back then. If you're interested please let me know, email is at the bottom of my post. Where abouts are you? Pete

You'd get a longblock minus manifolds into the boot of your car! Easily into a hatch. Lifting it might be fun mind you (speaks the voice of recent experience
)...

That'll be fine, cos I've got, me, my brother, my Dad and my Mum, and hopefully if it arrives in time, an engine hoist from Screwfix, if it comes to that.
I was just worried about getting it in the boot, the saloons aren't quite as useful in that regard as the hatchbacks, which, frankly have just as much room as some estates.

Hi again, well as it is currently still in the car, which is in the process of being striped of parts before it leaves me. This means it will, soon, be just a bare shell. So should you be interested, you could then have an axle, gearbox and basic running gear along with the engine, this would certainly make transportation a lot easier, as it will still be on wheels! This way it could be loaded onto a trailer. The saloons are nice in my opinion, although load space is rather restricted and a bit unusable compared to a hatchback. Let me know if you'd prefer the option I've suggested which makes transportation easier!

I think just the engine would be great thanks, I've already got another g/box rusting in the back garden I don't know what to do with
It needs a rebuild because the gears were a bit crunchy....
I could do with a torque tube though, provided the end float isn't too great.
Oh, and I hope a 1987 engine will work in a 1986 car with the wiring loom etc. I reckon I'll need the Renix control unit though, for sure.
