XC60
Re: XC60
Blame it all on Peter Horbury, as it all started going "downhill" (from our viewpoint) after the ECC (Environmental Concept Car) in 1992. Also, Volvo engineers figured that FWD was safer than RWD as there was less chance of driver error in slippery conditions, and the transverse engine allowed for more crumple zone in the front.
The boxy look started with another concept car 20 years earlier: VESC (Volvo Experimental Safety Car). The 140 series was a bit more rounded than the 240s which took a lot of design cues from the VESC.
The 300 series wasn't quite as rectangular when it was still the DAF 77, but I guess it had to conform a bit to the looks of the 240.

I'm with you there! And the C70 Coupé is nicer than the ragtop IMO too ...vØlvØfreak wrote:Totally agree! The second C70 has a way to small nose. And now the 'third' (actually face lift of the second).... Let's just not talk about that onemrsoundcraft wrote: instant disappointment, in volvo terms the best C70 was this one(still front wheel drive though!)

Re: XC60
The new C70 looks just too small and ordinary, no class at all. From some angles it almost reminds me of 206CC and other small cabrios..

Re: XC60
C70? Bah, it still is quite bad to my eyes, when there could be some nicer cars being made:

Re: XC60
I have seen photo of one, difficult to find however so I can't link it, but it could been a photoshop, however Wagon 300 was not Photoshop, that has really been, too bad only one prototype.AUTOMAN wrote:Now that is nice. Is or was there a 360 convertable?
Ian.
Fuse might have pic of that 300 convertible, also he may have pic of certain white 240 convertible too, which was super nice

My theory on the slanty lights thing is that its all fords fault, then Vauxhall followed. What really annoys me is that Mercedes thought they had to join in with the sprinter.volvosneverdie wrote:Why cant headlights go from sideways these days?
why do they HAVE to go backwards too!?
It looks ugly 90% of the time and theres REALLY no need for it.

this one looks far better to me

I'd love to see what a Volvo van would look like, cant believe the new S40 was designed in 92 though!
