my car has been very crap on fuel since i got her nealy three years ok (£20 would normaly only last a few days)
however last weekend i had a new down pipe fitted and used instant gasket on the carb also discovered a few bolts on underside of carb were loose so fixed them too
i then put £20 in the tank and ive done my usual mileage and the needle has not moved a great deal and the smell of petrol has gone
so im a very happy bunny
oh and i had the volvo specilist look at the car cos of a tapping i have and he said its tappet rattle nothin to worry about
by the way for anyone who doesent know the ford xr3 early type uses the same carb as a 1.4 but with bigger jets
i did have one but my parents swat it
i had it on my 1.6 orion for a while that could acheve 140mph with the carb on
Hate to pee on your party, but just jetting up your carb will simply make it run rich on full-throttle. Having said that, if you're making other alterations (cough cough camshaft cough), this is exactly what you need to do to correctly fuel the extra airflow you've just achieved. However, the proper place for this is the dyno (or maybe the road if you're really talented with tuning....or have a wideband oxygen sensor to monitor the air/fuel ratio on the move! Tuning is a precision business I'm afraid
Apparantly you can now get injection conversions for Renault 5 turbos....interesting, eh?
by the way im not planning on rejetting my carb (its only a 1.4 and thats not the route to power 2.0 is) ive been ofered a very nice 360 (19 year old!!) for 100 notes and 11months mot if its not gone by the 25th im avin it
and its a saloon yay!!
Yeah, the 1.4 is just too small for the weight of the car, even though it is a pretty efficient unit for its age. Bear in mind that the 2.0 will need tweaking to get the best out of it, as they were tuned for things other than performance from the factory.
