Does anyone run aftermarket speakers in a mk2 300? There is nowhere suitable, doors aren't deep enough, neither are the facotry locations in the C pillars. I am wanting to fit my 17.5cm Focal Utopia components or failing that, 15cm GZ co-ax's (not as deep)
Can't think of anyway except door or kick pods or an MDF shelf. I want them up front though.
Sick of running co-ax's in the original speaker boxes below the seats! lol
Any ideas?
Liam

Re: Speaker location
Yes it is a bit of a problem! I fitted some deep Infinity Kappa 5.25" components in my old 360 where the window crank goes on manual window cars (mine had electric windows). Could do that if you found a 3dr electric window mech, but that in itself will be tricky

Re: Speaker location
You need to put riser ring (speaker spacer?) between door and speaker, it comes out from door, but fits. There are some that allow you to direct speaker towards listener too, which is always a good thing I guess.
Some old magazine (maybe from 80's) had article how putting speaker under the seat is good many ways, they did recommend separate speaker for high frequencies though, don't think that is good idea personally as there is not much space either.
Can't remember now how is center console area near foot area, there might be bit of space?

Re: Speaker location
I will have a think about this...I'm sure there's an elegant solution!
Re: Speaker location
I've done what Jani suggests, used some 18mm ply and cut rings out that rise the speakers out. Strengthens the door card up too

Re: Speaker location
Cheers chaps. I was looking for a stealthy install seeing as my decent HU is in the glovebox and I keep the old skool Belkin in the dash to put off the little scrotes that like to help themselves!
Even with a speaker ring, as mentioned above I wouldn't be able to wind the windows lol. Thie had fail written all over it!
I sold my decent SQ stuff over the weekend anyway lol. I may do a FJ and look into an MDF shelf I think.

Re: Speaker location
Hi mate.
The speakers in my GLS are in both front foot wells. This allows you to not destroy the door cards.
Cheers Mark.
