Re: The Family! [we need your pictures!!]
Just taken in the middle of the day in spring, I guess for scrap, prices were high at the time. It was in my neighbours garden for over a couple of years (unfenced). I took it back into mine for a while, then I dug an inspection pit in my garage and put it back for a week or two. I'd let someone take a scrap 440 away a few months before. They either got greedy or someone else did, sad end to the car and a bit of a mystery. I checked all the local scrap merchants the next morning but nothing. The police never found it anywhere either

Aye, that is a sad story. I keep mine firmly locked away (and anything important to me has something large and definitively immobile in front of it! Usually a 240...) for that very reason.

Yes, I really didn't expect anyone pinch it, it was never going to go back on the road without a hell of a lot of work. Didn't know scrap was on the up at the time otherwise I wouldn't have left it there. I'd just moved VFW back into the garden a few days before cos I thought someone had opened the door on SDT (I left it unlocked so if someone did want to look inside for valuables they didn't brake a window.) I was busy with work and didn't get round to making room for SDT for a few days... too late. We don't usually have problems round here but if scrap collectors think something is a bit abandoned, they don't ask first. Would never leave any cars there now (unless fitted with a bomb of course!)

That really is a pity, the very early cars do have a few unique pieces of trim which are sought after by people restoring their own early cars. If the scrappies had taken the time to strip the car, they might have got more than what they got for the metalHell Driver wrote:but if scrap collectors think something is a bit abandoned, they don't ask first.

In the DAF Museum, they only have the millionth V300 - a very odd-looking car, sprayed bright red inside and out. The prototype in the DAF 77 ad would suit the museum much better, but unfortunately prototypes often get crushed.atroch wrote:Not in Volvo museum, I've found only this one in Goeteborg. nomead, what's the source of that pic? There are some books "Volvo in Holland" and "Vom 343L bis zum 360 GLT RSX2" which I haven't managed to get a peek at yet

Re: The Family! [we need your pictures!!]
it's a secret storage room for rare volvo's.
the daf 77 is there, the volvo 300 estate and all other rare models troughout the entire volvo range over the years..
i believe it was in Beesd but don't know that for sure..
meet won't be possible, the room is completely inaccesible for foreigners..

Did a quick search on the forum:

I'm sure "foreigners" is just a translation error of "non Volvo importer employees"antiekeradio wrote:Hello Shimon,Shimon - by email wrote:I just saw your picture of a volvo 340 estate on your website. Im very interested in finding out about this vehicle. Was it built by volvo or a private individual? I first thought it had the same type of estate as the 440 ACT cars from belgium but it looks like a real estate version...
where is it from?
look forward to hearing from you
it's a official prototype, stored in the basement of Volvo netherlands headquarters in Beesd.
They also have a cabriolet version there.
The picture was taken at the 'Volvo klassieker beurs' wich was held last september. Volvo
lent this car to the 300 club to display it on this fair. This was a VERY exceptional arrangement!!
We hope to be able to get the cabriolet there too sometime in the future, would be quite a premiére..

Re: The Family! [we need your pictures!!]
Yes, it was a bit of a disaster really. By now I would probably have been thinking of doing something towards the restoration of the car. (At the time it seamed like too much work as my son was only 1 and I had a lot going on!) It would probably have been one of the oldest ones left in the UK at the time, anyone know of any 1976/7 cars left in the UK on or off the road? (I know about the 78 Black Beauty for sale at the moment). I did once see a 1976 'R' reg in a scrap yard in Dorset in 1991 (reg TTT 805R) which I scavenged for rare brown trim parts! And yes I do have a photo (yet to be scanned in).trabitom99 wrote:That really is a pity, the very early cars do have a few unique pieces of trim which are sought after by people restoring their own early cars. Only the old lady's yellow S reg spied by someone on Retro Rides a year or two ago. That's one which could *very* easily end up scrapped, rather than for sale...

Hello.
(I am not sure when to create new subject on forum, or when post in existing one, so tell me whan I do wrong).
Today i pick up my 343 from upholsterer (not sure if this is good word in english).
My chairs in Volvo was in very bad condition. How bad it was I realized when I saw the new cover and compared with old one.
Here is some pictures of 'before' and 'after':
