My new 340..........

Post by Ian Mac »

One owner from new, 18000 genuine miles and absolutely no rust. It does need a new boot carpet though and the clutch is fairly high so will probably need replacing sooner rather than later. Being a DL it has no heated seats, a four speed gearbox and the radio only receives medium and long wave stations. Nonetheless, its an extremely nice car and a weekends work will see it in showroom condition :D

I've paid a deposit and will collect the car within the next few days so I'll post some more pics once its been cleaned-up (not that it needs much - a good polishing, touch-up some minor paint chips etc)

Fantastic :D Amazing too, how the previous owner managed to wear the clutch in 18000 miles  That must have been some serious stop / start, elderly driving ;-)

Very clean! Congrats! I'd be very tempted to swap in a 5speed box, makes for a much nicer and economical drive. Although I guess if you don't do long trips, it doesn't really matter!

To be honest I would have preferred a five speed box but as the car will mainly be used to commute to and from the station its not too much of an issue. I wanted the best condition car I could find for the money regardless of specification so I've finished up with a four speed box, no heated seats and a rather basic stereo system. It beats having to rebuild the front valance and rear jacking points though... :D

It's the usual story with 300's - the best car money can buy will be the cheapest in the long term. Especially if you have to pay someone to do the work for you ...

It's a different story with Mk1s though. Here it's more of a case of "snap anything that comes up regardless of condition" ;-)

In LHD-country even late cars are getting scarce. There's a chap on http://www.volvo-forum.de who's desperately looking for a LHD MkIII GLT with a B200F engine regardless of condition. He's had no luck so far, despite searching all the Swedish, Swiss, Dutch and Spanish websites too ...

There's a lot to be said for basic spec, less to go wrong. Best way to heat the seats is to break wind I find, although a fifth gear would be useful.

Nice colour too, a wise purchase Ian let's hope it serves you well :)
