The original materials used in V343s (and in Dafs too) are really prone to bleaching out in the sun. You can see on the one pic where the seat is folded forward that the covers used to be black, but have faded to a kind of brown colour. On mine, when you move the rear seat belts to one side, you can see two black stripes running along the side of an otherwise brown rear seat back ;-)

Great work, did they do anything to the "foam" as well? Those seats look nice and comfy now ...

Yes, I saw that former black color in few corners :)

I am not sure what exactly they did with foam. I think they did not remove old foam, only used some additional fabric under the cover fabric. Passenger seat was in bad contition. They also added some strong fabric in the bottom, between the springs and the foam. It looks very solid.
Tha fabric is the original for Volkswagen.
My wife said that "new" seats are to hard, I think she used to that used soft ones.

S- Reg is 77 to 78, so 78 model year, but I don't get the chrome door handles & mirrors and the hub caps then.

Hell Driver wrote:The car was registered in August 1977, but I'm sure it was made in 1976. It might not mean anything but the air filter was date stamped Septembre 1976, so it can't have been put together before that, but must have been soon after? Also my dad suspects the dealer (Allisons, long since bought out by Riverside Volvo) found an old stock car because he had trouble getting the blue one. We were told we could only get a brown one. When the brown one came in it was quickly sold to someone else who wanted brown car and he was told 'we've found a blue one for you sir'. We always suspected it had sat around in a car pound somewhere for nearly a year
Some info from volvomania about this car, which I forgot to post

"
Early hub caps were dropped with chnr 318090 (early MY 77, I would guess around Jan of 1977).
Chromed doorhandles were dropped with the start of MY 78 which is chnr 348001 (early Sep 77).
The indication of the air filter says quite a lot; I would guess SDT was built somewhee during Oct- Nov 1976 making it an early MY77 (below chnr 318090).
If it was a MY76 it would have had a different date on the air filter housing.
"

Many thanks, RJV ...

True, it also looks like a 1976 model! Pity the Daf Museum in Eindhoven doesn't have a Mk1 - only a very odd looking, painted "millionth" MkIII.

Yes, a new avatar to celebrate my GLT passing it's MOT :-) I also got sick of the "Trabant coming out of the wall" picture, it was in the papers every other day due various "20th anniversary" celebrations ...

I am sure it was only ritual stamp in papers ;)

By the way do they put the stamp to your car-papers when annual MOT is confirmed? Or do you get extra paper for this in Germany?

No ritual stamp unfortunately ... I had play in the power steering, and it took a long time to get the parts together.

The MOT (TÜV) is stamped both in the car's papers AND you get a seperate test report which you need to carry in the car with you.

Those restoration pictures are stunning - that must be one of the best-documented V300 restorations I've ever seen  Congratulations on a superb job! The car looks perfect - the choice of accessories for it too.

How long did it take you?

EDIT - looking at the titles of your image gallery I suppose I could guess ;-)
Nice website, too!
