I have a 360 GLS from 1985 and one day last week it seemed it didn't want to start. I drove it on the weekend before with no problems what so ever but on the monday it first took a long time to start up and when I got out from the driveway it just stopped and refused to start again.
The motor goes around with the starter but it dosen't ignite. I have done following:
*Cleaned the carburetor
*Checked that gas enters the carburetor when you step on the gas
*Checked the distributor
*Checked that all four spark plugs ignites
*Changed timing belt and aligned it correctly
*Checked that the compression is at correct pressures
I'm also sure that there's gas in the tank and that the battery is charged but i haven't checked the cam shaft or the valves yet.
if it's a b200k engine with the solex 34/34 carb i'd say you have a floater that isn't floating anymore causing a way too high petrol level in the carb..
It shouldn't be the floater because when I cleaned the carburetor I didn't notice that there were large amounts of petrol in it. And it doesn't ignite when I use start gas either.
Ignition is the most common problem, unbolt the coil from the ignition module and thoroughly clean with white spirit or other solvent. Check in pitch black, let you eyes get used to the dark and watch the ignition system for leaks, they will glow (presuming you can get it started).
If the carb is not good you will have seen other problems like a black exhaust when the choke is out or when running, usually you can get it going with different applications of accelerator. Tick over problem are also common due to carb/fueling. Have you anyway of checking /adjusting the mixture?
