340 Project

Hi all, right where to start. Basically im looking at getting a 340 either a 1.4 or 1.7 not sure which one and i wanna make it a project to turn it into a pretty good drift car but still use it as an everyday car. Any help/ideas/info would be great

Well thats it basically, oh if anyone knows of any cheap 340's for sale, 3 or 5 door just let me know.

welcome, from what i have read on here/tramp drift. is that you ideally want a 1.7 340 or 360. this is because they have that little bit of extra grunt for getting the rear out and the engine is also easily swapped for a 1.8 clio lump

340's come in 1.4 or 1.7 and are renault engines. a lot of people put engines from clios, megane etc in as they are quite a simple conversion.

360's are 2.0 and have a volvo engine. some people put turbo engines from 940/740's in as this is quite easy also.

whatever car you choose if you want it to slide well you'll probaly want to weld the diff. not ideal on a daily but most people never have a problem.

alot of it also depends on your budget, you could spend a few hundred quid on lowering it properly or you could do it for 6 quid like i did! lol

have a look in the offers section for cars, they pop up quite often and are usually quite cheap. also ebay is a great place to buy from but always try to view the car first.

You are wrong. There were 340 (343 in fact) with 2 litre engine

yeah but you're a very, very, very lucky basterd if you own one of those!
this was right after the last 343/345 was build and they were the first 300's with an 0 at the end that were fitted with the 2.0 litre engine

i know 2 of those in holland, one of them possibly scrapped.

I had one, but now it is no longer exist.. Sad story.
It was 343 in VIN and on the back

the 343 and 345 was available in DLS and GLS, the S addition to the DL and GL versions ment there was a 2.0 under the bonnet.. this was available from MY1980 till MY1982

after that for the MY1983 you were able to order a 340 spec car with a 2.0 engine; see this as a "winner" or L version of the 360.
they dropped this option at august 1983 when the 360GLT was launched though..

We never got 2.0 340's in the UK. That doesn't stop every motorfactor trying to sell us parts for them though

Seems true. It was '82 343 GLS
