my first car* 1.4 1990 340 Carburettor Help Please!
Re: my first car* 1.4 1990 340
Yeah gasless can be a pain with spattering and unpredictable heat. Currently I'm learnding on some spare steel before I do a few minor jobs on my car. The jobs will be different types and thickness of metal so it should be a great start in my welding career
Re: my first car* 1.4 1990 340
GUESS what this is for
(not for the jeep
) its for the volvo ofcourse:

Looks nice
These cars did have originally plastic under cover at engine bay area, but got lost usually at some point as plastic did crack around mounting holes.
Some form of shielding is always good, specially winter time engine bay keeps cleaner.
In B200 there are cooling fins at bottom of oil pan, I think that I have seen some pro build sump guards and those designs did leave that area of oilpan free, there was a hole for oil pan in the cover, however there was also some metal bar which was bit lover than the sump, which did add some form of protection to it.
I don't know if that is any of importance, but thought I would share this faint memoryprint I had in my (rather empty) head.
For me, yours looks lot better than what I have, you see I don't have even plastic cover
My welder also makes lot of holes at lowest setting, usually it helps a bit when I increase wire feeding speed, but then it easily goes too far and wire does not burn as fast as it is added, which makes it kick back (this might sound odd, don't know welding words too much), well I guess you got what I mean.
I have gas connection in my mig welder, but here gas bottles are priced so that only rich can get one, it is several hundred (or was it even over thousand?) for each year + gas.
For first welds I think yours look really good, I could not make even close to that, http://jtbo.pp.fi/images/image/240/rust ... primer.jpg and I actually had experience from mig welding and stick welding from school time, I really can't believe it is all my bad skills there, at least I hope it being partly because of no gas wire
Keep up the good work

Re: my first car* 1.4 1990 340 finished sump guard
thanks for the replies all
yeah im planning on having a bit of rally fun with this, as all my friends are doing alot of rallying and its bloody good fun.
can't see the guard when the car is on the floor - not sure if thats a good thing or not?
mine did have a plastic one which i took off, but the bolt holes at the back were either cracked off or non existent. its had a pigeon in there too judging by the feathers i found lodged inbetween cracks
if anyone wants it by the way - its yours
i know what you mean about kickback of the wire, jtbo, i had this problem when i was trying to tune the welder to not burn holes got there in the end - kind of, kept on making holes which i then had to weld up by adding more weld on top of the other weld that was just a ball of metal then grinding it all back and filling holes again.
gah need some gas but its qquite expencive - £5er for a meter of weld
not too fussed about having a hole for the oil drain - the whole thing is only attached with 5 bolts at the moment, i will add more brackets later. decided to give the neighbours a rest
think i should add some cooling slots then? - OR find an external oil cooling rad?
cheers!

Re: my first car* 1.4 1990 340 finished sump guard
I wouldnt stress about the sump cooling on a 1.4 tbh, the redblock sump is hugely more designed for it.

yeah i though it was a bit overkill for a 1.4 too, but who knows we'll see once i start driving.Chris_C wrote:I wouldnt stress about the sump cooling on a 1.4 tbh, the redblock sump is hugely more designed for it.

Recipie for years of fun.
Re: my first car* 1.4 1990 340 finished sump guard
ahh i realised havent really updated this, not been here for a while. so the next bit wont be to everyone's tastes but im liking the way it is now personally
first up matt black wheels as i didnt really like silver. having it in matt black atleast hides some of the uglyness of these wheels untill i find something appropriate (cheap) to replace with

then, there was some audio

holes for 6x9s

they fitted alright. then i popped on the grilles which i didnt get pictures of.
so time came to strip out the car to see where to put wires etc

then i forgot about pictures
so front speakers:
very orange mind, but once the grills are on hard to notice really

i did mis-judge the diameter (measured bolts not the cone D'OH
)

but not to worry i managed to get them to fit ok

now, brace yourselves for this

Re: my first car* 1.4 1990 340 finished sump guard
right continued.
my "creative genes" got carried away i think, didnt help that i had deep purple felt laying about too (looks much brighter in the pictures)

TADA!!
the amplifier is neatly tucked away behind the sub. i cut sections out of the plastic interiour plate that i got from the scrappy, dont want to cut into the good one yet. or if i will atall.
and also retrimmed the sub box and added a check plate for effect

all this work was done by 2 bored teenagers
opinions?
