Hey guys how are we? Well today I finally got started on a job i've been wanting to start for a few days now!
Before I start with the latest job progress the actual running of the car appears to be progressively getting better! It started p*ssing about on me last friday, erratic idling, hesitating blah blah blah, so I decided to give it a kick up the arse lmao!
Pulling out from my gf's place of work I absolutely nailed it (I did attempt to try getting sideways out of there but open diff said otherwise

) bounced the fricker off the limiter anyway in a moment of anger (first time i've ever done it in this as I didn't fancy ragging the engine too bad). Anyway after that I parked it up once i'd reached my gf's and I left it over the weekend while me and my gf went upto Leeds. Driving the car home on Sunday and it's been far FAR better than it's previously been!
Don't know wether it's just me or not but that belting appears to have helped it a little, wether there was some sh*t in the carb or somewhere and it's cleared it out I don't know? Either way i'm pleased lol! Although it's still not driving perfect it is however now consistent giving me a pattern to work with finally! Last night I pulled one of the plugs out to give me an idea of how the carb was running and it's been overfuelling quite a bit so i've leaned it out slightly which is good as it's brought me even closer to the Weber default settings and it's still driving as it was before, so give it another couple days now and i'll check the plugs over again and see if I need to tamper anymore or not. (Yes i've still not properly got it tuned yet lol) Regardless it's still being pretty good on fuel and I don't feel half as scared to drive it about now in the fear of wether i'll actually reach work in it or not lol!
So now, back to my door lol! First things first was to get the screwdriver out and chip off all of the loose paint then got to work sanding off any loose rust. A few people who had looked at the door had said to me "it's rotten you'll never sort that!" I know it's still solid down the bottom though so i'll prove them wrong

and if the bottom of the door falls out in a few months time then I obviously didn't prove them wrong!

Luckily unlike yours JTBO the door skin is still intact with the doors frame so it's all good! Anyway once I'd got the loose rust out the way I cracked out the Kurust! Didn't get any piccies of the rust in it's original state but you can pretty much see from my other piccies how it looked.
This is during the second attack of Kurust
After third Kurust attack
fourth attack didn't look a whole lot different to third so this is my last, fifth attack of Kurust
Some shiny shiny

Gave it a little bit more of a sanding to get into the pitting of the metalwork and then dried it all off ready for red oxiding

and this is where I've finished off for the evening now...
Has come out much better than I expected, bar a small amount of pitting into the metal work underneath the rust the condition of the door isn't that bad at all so i'm very pleased with that! Going to leave it overnight now and on the way home from work tomorrow i'll be stopping by Halfords to pick up a can on high build filler primer before finally going over with top coat and lacquer! I'm not expecting it to come out perfect as i'm no bodyman, i've done paint in the past which has come out alright but I don't really class myself as skilled, tbh though just to have the door all one colour and now that it'll probably last for another few years will make me more than happy so it's all good! I still need to attack the rest of the door along the bottom but theres only 2 small patches so won't take me long to get on top of those
Also in other news, say hello to my new Engine mounts which i'll hopefully be fitting the weekend!
You'd never believe that these are actually Rear exhaust silencer mounts for a Volvo B10 Bus (Unknowingly gifted to me via my place of work

) lmfao! There EXACTLY the same depth as our engine mounts! The only thing i've had to do to compensate for the little nut shape in the top of our mounts is use 2 washers (read spacers lol) to make up that little bit of height difference, but bar that, there bang on

can't wait to get shot of my f*cked engine mounts! Stop the car wobbiling around when i'm sitting in traffic lol!
