Choke working WOOHOO!, but shakey on choke.

Post by CBA »

Turned that high idle screw loads, got it working nicely, bit of choke just gives a bit of high idle, full choke kicks it up fine with no accelerator needed, choke works progressively, last few mm of choke is just slight idle increase no actual "choke".

But, it shakes with the "right" amount of choke, EG it will accelerate without a flatspot but it still shakes at idle, it;s just... blatting at the exhaust at 1000RPM, definately missing.

Now, what's the likely cause of the shaking for first 30 seconds, can I get a smoother run out of it? plugs are properly gapped and perfectly clean, economy is very good again after fitting a bunch of locknuts+bolts to the carb/airbox, hot air duct is naff but connected, but that doesn't matter when the exhaust is cold - airbox air temp "thermostat" is working as it should too. it's a pronounced misfire, a thud of a completely lost compression/combustion, only on one cylinder, regular EG always same cylinder, but irregular, sometimes it will run 6 or 8 revs before another misfire. once warm it's fine, runs smooth and sweet with smooth power all the way up the revs, ZERO hesitation from idle or anywhere up the revs when warm, cant conk it out by stabbing the accelerator at idle. I'm thinking HT leads now I've written it out but what do you think.

Either that or... what? bad compression on the one cylinder, gets better when warmed up, sticking piston ring, either HT lead or mechanical I think :?

(get compression test done soon, should have already done it...)

Mine did this when the engine mounts suddenly gave way. Rubber could have perished. It wasn't a gradual thing, one day it was fine, the next day it was shakey jake.
