340 with twin round lights?

Post by davemk1gti » 13 May 2010 08:45 pm

has any one got any pics of a 340 with twin round lights - I have bought some capri lights for project V8 and wondered if anyone has done it before?

my googlefoo is weak and I cannot find any pictures.

I did do it on my 240 once using bmw round lights - these give you an idea what Im thinking - the capri lights are both level with each other rather than the bmw ones where the inner one sat further forward more.

I've not seen it done, but my personal opinion is it would just look wrong as a 340 is so boxy and angular. But thats my thoughts obviously and it's not my car so therefore you can do as you please :D

it will be something different but wheter it is looking pretty or not and such depends totally on how you do it.. the big frontbumper doesn't make this easy..

 so true-very strada-esque!

Maybe if you retained/used square light mountings and used round lights it could look good-you could still use a grill of volvoness if the space/dimesions are same as original.(does that make any sense?)

The old Vw & BMWs were boxy too... mind you the old Mercs were boxy and tended to use square lights... having said that... didnt some of the old U.S muscle cars have some boxy designs whilst using round lights?

This could be a very interesting project which is very aesthetically blingstyle inspiring.. 340pw

I've thought about it before to try and make my saloon look more like a BMW 325 or something but I don't think there's enough space on the front of a 340 to get big enough lights in there. They have to be big otherwise it looks a bit puny.

It's something I'm probably going to have to do soon, the square shape is useless for actually projecting light. I was thinking of going mk1 style, BMW lights inside some plain perspex or something.

Yes, you look closely at Mk 1 lights, you'll see that the reflector is round behind a square glass cover. Some vehicles have just round lights (like old American import volvos) and Mk2 Transits in a square plastic surround. How good it looks also depends how well you manage to finish off the job and make all fit. I think I'd go for the lights behind the glass/clear perspex style, one big light would be better.

You can't get that BMW look, that is you can't get it easily, bonnet would need to come further ahead and have more V-shape when looked from above.

Manta 400 had round double lights while having similar angle (well in one direction) of front as 300, but still there shape continues at bonnet/fenders, having such straight front as 300 has with bumper coming forwards and bumper's close to lights edge rising upwards is making thing look wrong, so it would require whole new design of front to look good, imo.

Bumper, bonnet at least need to be shaped again, of course light shrouds are needed to be made as well has front grill.

Making front cone, modifying bonnet, making new fenders that are more puffed out to fit wider rubber, then I would not see problem there, it can be made to look good, but is it what you want? That way you could of course find bit additional space for coolers/fans, but it is not very wide car and making longer front end can make it look stupid, so, imo, it needs then those puffed out fenders to make it look right and not narrow + long.
