Mot fails
Mot fails
I tried to get MOT for french crap which had run out of MOT quite some time ago, it is ZX that is known to be very hard to rust, bollocks, both sills rotten completely, there was only paint left, no any visible marks to outside, rotten from inside, no metal at all, both sides. Car is galvanized, but still rotten away in secrecy.
Was not looking to get any welding on that, so it would be just the same just weld 360 and get mot for it
Me no happy camper

Re: Mot fails
I would need some metal sheets for it, also some parts, but I don't know when it all becomes possible. Anyway, defineatly I should get it running too, so I could put french crap out or something.volvosneverdie wrote:Let this, and the other tales told here) be a warning to everyone else.

edit:
We have had +25C over a week now, only slight wind, so it is nice and warm, but not too hot, looks like cold chill pushed all that heat from there to here, I'm not complaining, however I did read you are having bit chilly weathers, something like usually in March perhaps?
Re: Mot fails
I like my French crap galvanised on one side, I'm a Parisian in new york..... wo oh.

Re: Mot fails
Our forecast is 4-14 next week
I did poke it with a knife and ton of c*ap came off from there:
Sure there was one spot where paint had come off on that side which I patched with paint, also bottom of front fender has been quite bad shape, so patched with some more paint there, but it is quite bad when you poke it with knife without too much of trouble. Rear section seem to be bit more solid as could not easily poke trough with knife, so it was not that bad what MOT man told me.
While I had equipment out I did patch few places from 360, so that it would not rust so bad. It would require quite major work also.
I know 360 is still not that bad from those places and it is 9 years older and has only one tiny weld done before

Are you sure?SteveP wrote:Is that the french thing? They don't rust like that here!
It did not looked being rusted at all, but for certain it is rather rusty from those sills, actually it has rusted from the inside as outside metal, where there is any, is just fine, but inside is one that is rusty
I just blame road salt and cold winters, oh and galvanized from outside only is perhaps what has happened here
Re: Mot fails
Must be your severe winters... strangely early-mid 90's Pugs/Citroens did quite well with rust resilience here, just the rest of the cars tended to fall apart!

Re: Mot fails
I know one another of these only one year older that had rusted just like this one, then garage where I buy parts told me that there was one Renault Laguna that did rust same way.SteveP wrote:Must be your severe winters... strangely early-mid 90's Pugs/Citroens did quite well with rust resilience here, just the rest of the cars tended to fall apart!
Maybe it is that some individual cars have had some problem with galvanization process, like some holes have not been open or something like that, it is now 13 years old, so there has been plenty of time it to rust, however only way how rusting could of been started is having missing galvanization, place is so protected, no dirt nothing can't enter to there from outside.
Condensation because of severe winter can of course make that place wet, but I think that is still bit wierd.
Can't be helped, if new parts are available, then I will get those, if not, then I have to get some sheetmetal, which I could actually use for 360 too, but I have not made such repairs before, so it might not go so well
