Low oil pressure - sorted

Post by pyro »

Hey folks
SO new engine in, very impressed with it, very smooth and quiet.

However on the over-run/engine breaking to a round about the other day the low oil pressure light came on. It stays on under circa 1400 rpm, or it did, on a test yesterday the rev range it went out at was getting higher and higher. now about 2200 rpm

So tow truck on the way, will be home in an hour or so.

Im hoping it will be somthing simple like a fecked pressure switch, or ive not attached the pump properly.

I do have the 940 engine pump still, is it possible to swap the oil pick up pipes round? as obviously the 360 and 940 are way different?

what else could cause it?

synical sven said regrind and re-shell

however ive had a good few weeks and refuse for it to be that!

Fixed that typo for you Ben,ol' bean.

If it ain't summit simple like blocked p/up or failed o/pump it'll be as previously stated.

Old oil.

Worn pump.

Defective pressure switch wiring.

cheers for that cba!
its a volvo 940 b200 (1995 ish)

the wiring all looks ok, as it goes out when reved. however it will all be checked!

i have a spare pressure switch that il lswap in when i get home.

theres no smoke at all from the exhaust so dont think its the head gasket

ill see how things go when im back

thanks!

right found the problem

the oil feel pipe has a little orange/redish seal/oring that sits the the block right?

well its not, well not all of it anyways!
hoping the 940 one will be a direct swap.

Where does that go then? It looks just like the seal for the turbo oil return pipe that fits from outside the block.

it fits round the output tube of the oil pump. There's an O-ring at both ends, where it leaves the oil pump and where it enters the block.

I think I remember reading about it somewhere might have been the 700/900 maintenence FAQ...so it must be a very common fault on redblocks.
