They sure will be at the meet - I took them to the Bham meet, so I guess I can take them to this one too! I think we should all (as many as possible) get to the VOC National - line up in the car park for non-VOC members. I'll have the carbs fitted by then, so you can some and drool in person
I'll hopefully be drooling too....
I must have missed you getting a second Redline Mick!
cheers

York was SO last year darling! (makes limp wristed gesture)
It's being held somewhere in the Malverns this year - the three counties showground maybe? There's a fair chance we could arrange the largest turnout of any model!
cheers
James

Nope. I'd rather like it to make a statement though, as (in the experience of myself and several of my chums) the VOC has proven rather less than friendly towards its younger members. That's rather a sweeping generalisation, but....
1) The insurance scheme is a joke for young drivers.
2) The young driver prize at the BKV/National is even more of a joke - it has been won 'genuinely' once in the past 5-6 years, and even that was by a lass who had bought a 340 that very week which had been garaged and pampered thus far. Basically, every year they give it to some old duffer who fills the form in wrong, but they don't bother to work out who is second, and then they never bother to chase it up after the event.
When I tried to enquire I was told sniffily "well you didn't score very highly". No shit Sherlock! I actually have to drive my car every day... At least this time I'll be able to put it in 'working cars' (10k+ in a year) if I wish, so its hard life ought to be taken into account. Having said that, a couple of years ago a 740 did its 10k in the first 6 months, then was taken off the road and rebuilt - full respray, retrim, etc....not exactly in the spirit of things!!
I think the VOC has an important role to play, and there are a lot of comitted and friendly people involved, but I'm going to write Dennis LeWorthy an email when I finally get around to renewing my subscription (my bad..) stating my feelings quite plainly, and suggesting that the VOC 'officialdom' (read: the old guard) has a year to embrace its potential younger members (and I'm happy to co-ordinate) before it loses a generation forever.
Bit of a pet rant, it must be said...
The 'performance car section' (also lovingly referred to as 'the T5 girls'
) are a bunch of good guys though - in fact far more friendly and generally 'in the spirit of things' than the majority of the other T5 sites (with a hefty nod to volvot5.co.uk - who seem to be behind a lot of the tension within the FWD scene).
Funnily enough, us RWD guys are chilled right out! Probably something to down with the frustration of being beaten off the line by superminis
cheers
James

foggy, your comments on the V.O.C. ring very true, I knew phill wright as a customer of power engineering, long before I got involved with my own volvo, and I recall him saying simmilar things, and he felt that the performance section was being choked to death by the rest of the club, apparently they did not approve of 'performance volvos'. considering the age of some of the members, surely they should take note of what the younger drivers want and try to make them a bit more welcome to ensure the future of the club?

Phil is one of my chums, although I've not spoken to him in ages. We're in the same business (live audio), although I'm really just starting my career, and he's one of the best paid people in the business in this country!
Well this is what we have to address...the VOC needs young members to survive, and they ain't gonna be joining the caravan and camping section...
cheers
James
