Did I mention the insurance? £146

I'll stop blowing my trumpet and wait for monday,
Hope the engine is good, often quite noisy valve gear if not properly maintained..

TBH I don't care about economy in this, worth the extra for the comfort alone 8)

Looks like I'l end up paying £500-£550, he was a bit "disappointed" with the price, and has no legal obligation to sell (I checked it out) - so offered an extra ton and whooptidoo, pick it up on friday sm95

Hmmmm. Bit snide that mind.
A deals a deal. You can be as disapointed as you like, but either set a reserve, or live with the end price.

Hope he doesnt stick another ton on when you get to the door. :?

Snide... £460 was the end price, I'm goona pay £530, leaving me with enough for insurance and a tank of gas... Dont think it's too much, he only said £500-£550 on the phone, it's under a ton on top maybe just £40... lets see... If I take my mate bob there'll be ZERO arguments, but he costs £40 for diesel to birmingham (he runs on diesel), Not related to the stig, but the same species. So thats £520 anyway with bob-induced original sale price.. I can pay £530 on my own and go on the train (£1)...

I think the extra should sweeten the deal, I might get more history and paperwork that way??

If I told him to sod it it would have already gone to someone else, had to make an extra offer on the phone - I asked "What do you want for the car!" he answered £550-£500, Sooooooo - looks like he wantsa buy something that costs £500 or therabouts... The extra £40 or so was important, and he's as good at selling cars as I am at buying them. sm4

ohh, postponement - 72 hours delay due to "cash in a flash LTD" who didn't buy my washer as expected, due to a BIT* of rust... assholes.

But more extra money is coming wednesday so not too bad + insurance is a pittance (they are actually refunding me £100 pro-rata from the volvo, so the insurance is effectively £40 for the year) and I'll have enough for petrol and a weeks secure parking until i move to scotland for a few months "freely roaming" (camping) (out of a jag, so comfort isn't an issue :) )...

Cor if you'd have waited. you could have had mine...

I literaly had my Xj40 Sovereign up this past week. mot and taxed. under £300

3.6 AJ6 engine. 225bhp its less than that from memory were talking below 200

Mine was ex goverment :d So i have the little flag pole on the bonnet :D

released in 1992.

Its just broken though. hence im selling it no need for it what with uni coming up..

And i topped it at 120, and i saw 21mpg high on a 100 mile trip. and for the last few weeks of driving i was getting 15.6MPG, and i drive 30miles a day for work...

Did you buy it through EBay or direct through him? I thought EBay was a legally binding contract, i know it's a load of toss what with people not turning up to buy stuff but i thought that was the case.
Therefore if you win it for £400 you pay just that £400.

Deep in the eBay rules is a clause which states that eBay is, in legalese terms, a venue and no more. OK, so there are folk selling motors there who claim to be able to take non-payers or friday night, post-pub joke bidders to court and win but that's all pure sh*te. A venue, no more binding than sticking the car on the road with a "for sale" sign in the window and having someone come to your door and make an offer..

Saying that, there's always a chance of a slap on the virtual wrist in the form of being banned from eBay if you don't play their game by their rules, the badstarts. :x

well I got it, it's not tip top but it's good enough, reasonably low miles, reasonably high oil pressure, plenty electric gremlins but main MOT devices ABS etc work fine, plenty power, pretty quiet, good paint on the whole, can't moan...

It does have a serious drink problem... unless on the mway.
about 10mpg round town and did Birmingham - bolton on £20, so 25mpg ish (with underinflated tyres x 2.. so theres more in it)

OTR price was £556.20
...
Might get another 300 for local trips... it does use a lot of petrol sm91
