Introduce me and my lovely car :)

Post by jjonn » 18 Jul 2010 09:42 pm

Hi all, glad i was introduced to your site. I am a proud new owner of a volvo 340 gle, 1986 d reg, with only 5000 miles on clock, ...yup, 5 k ! It belonged to my grandfather, who passed away. I am 38, and newly converted from motorcylces. Want to say hi all, and here is my car, and i look forward to some banter, and some advice, from all the enthusiasts out there :)

Glad youre enjoying it dude.
Theyre good cars and not hard to look after.
Chase the rust (not that yours will have any!) and they become rather hard to kill.

Hard to let go of too. 8)

5K, that's something new :D

do make sure you get the oil changed soon (preferred before using it as a daily or long journeys) and take a look under the valve cover to see if it's kinda clean. you don't want the oil-pickup pipe to get blocked by sludge

weird speclist for a GLE though, is it a 1.4 or a 1.7?

It'll be a 1.7 as the UK never got 1.4 saloons :)
1989 - Volvo 360 GLT
1985 - Volvo 360 GLS

AFAIK GLE in the UK is more of a trim level definition, in Europe GLEs were 2.0l injected saloons (although I'm sure I saw a GLE hatch for sale in France, once).

Cheers
