I have a B19E engine with 2 "Y" mounts and a damper on it. From time to time (bumps and road irregularities) the fan blades touches the cover of the radiator because the engine sits now a bit lower than normal...To solve this problem, I pulled out the mounts from the car and inserted a thick (about 2cm) piece of rubber to stop the cylindrical rubber that holds the single screw from falling down due to the engine weight. Until now it works fine. On the other hand, what is the role of the damper in the front of the engine ? How do I know that I have to change it ?
I am now searching for a better solution...what mount (new, heavy duty & long lasting) can fit my engine with minor modifications ? I saw this picture ...these round mounts are hydraulic or simple rubber & for what engine they are designed ? Can I find new ones from Volvo dealers ?
Any help is appeciated
Cheers
David
You could try and convert to the glycol mounts, the idea was to replace the front mini shock, but I think they are NLA from Volvo. I'm not sure if any other parts need to be replaced aswell. You should be able to get some 2nd hand, there have even been new ones on ebay. Can't remember if the engine mount brackets are different, but obviously these should be fine from scrap aswell.
Are your rear diff brackets ok, they can breakup+bushes seperate and cause the engine to tip more.
Thanks for your reply "Ride_on"
I will see what can I do for the front mini shock ...
Concerning the 2 "Y" engine mounts, I want to change them to some NEW heavy duty ones (because used ones from scrap yards are like "shit" here...the rubber is completely cracked...)
So I have to modify the support of the mount that bolts on the chassis...but the question is : Which mounts fits the best my B19E (with minor modifications) ???
My rear diff brakets are fine...until now
Cheers
David.
Sorry maybe I wasn't clear. I mean the later design with the glycol mounts (round metal casing type in your photo) removes the need for the mini-shock.
No problem...
So you are saying that the better mounts that can fit my B19E are these "glycol mounts" and they also replace the role of the mini shock...
On which cars (engines) these mounts were initially fitted ???
Can I find some new ones ??? And if not, how do I inspect used ones to see if they are in a good condition ???
Cheers
David
New ones are very rare, but there were some on ebay last year. I've found them to be pretty reliable, but a mate had one go and I've heard a few others. Basically it will collapse and the exhaust touches the crossmember, however this is also a symptom of a poorly fitting downpipe (Volvo and aftermarket), or bent suspension crossmember.
Okey...i'll begin searching for these "glycol mounts"...
But if I do not find ones in a good condition (since the 360s are very very rare over here)...Is there any other alternatives ? Like fitting some mounts from more common volvo's (200,700,900 series) ?!
Cheers
David.
