Good modern crap?

Post by Speedy88 » 16 Aug 2010 07:17 pm

Here's an idea for a topic, post a picture of a car made since 1995 that you like. Then wait for everyone to go "YUK" and slate you  I'll go first

They still make cars? I thought that they stopped that years ago and started to make soap boxes on wheels

I don't like that red car, it is like some Pokemon character and I don't like Pokemon.

On the other hand, it looks like a whale, tiny whale with big mouth.

Can I post already? Anyway, it is hard to find car made after 1995 that I like, but one is this (you can still buy new ones), however it's interior is total rubish in this new versions:

Of course you did meant cars that were made after 1998, right? Because otherwise we all would just post pic of Volvo 960 here and humm approval together like some weird cult?

I'm going to get shot, but this.... was remarkably awesome to drive. It had feel AND it had balance. Interior was made out of the inside of a chocolate box (but then so is anything Japanese) and the seats were horrific (but it is still driving around with Fake's originals in)

You must do 30 road rallies in v300 and remember to thank great Volvo from v300 every evening from that comment and don't forget to put money into charity chest on your way out

All the car you'll ever need. And it's built in Poland instead of Fiat's own little Leyland back home in Italy so it's reliable as well. Shame it doesn't come with the Selecta gearbox of old but hey, you can't have everything.

Evo X, i simply adore those! a highpower japanese turbo(or twinturbo)-charged motor will probably be my next ride after i finish the 340Turbo and 343, Evo could be up but it will be a 7 or 8; or a skyline R33/R34; or a mk4 supra; jummy!

allthough i personally think there's nothing to "yuk" about; maybe it's engine. Nissan was just like Toyota very good with the 3-litre 6 in line engines! too bad they went to a V6 for this beast.

That black car is very very ugly (compared to R34) and it's sound is very very poor (compared to R34) so it is multiple YUK's in one package :D

But that thing defies laws of physics, thing is way faster than it should be on track and somehow it never loses grip, it just bites very hard to road, performance of that thing is very impressive, shame they have to change looks every time they improve the car.

After model lines as 180SSS and 140Y that model line is perhaps only thing I like from Nissan, mainly because of R34, it looked good, don't really care about drift stuff. Sure I did like Cedric too, probably none fits into this topic though, too old, or maybe R34 does fit in?

Nissan V6 engines are one of the best in weight/power/drivability (uhm, is that a word?), overall all of the engines they are very good powerplants, but it's Nissan, girls car brand

Fiat, okay, I think I don't need mention no more, there are some points in Fiat, but it really is not my cup of tea. Well, 125P was still ok, as was 500 and 600, 4x4 Panda 1st gen too, but them are few and not fitting to this because those are again too old.

If I think servicing and maintaining car, then cars made after 1995 is bit challenge to pick, but that included, this fits nicely in, sorry you never got one of these babies with Turbo like we did

It says that standing 1 kilometer took 32 seconds with 3 persons on board and topped easily speedo that did read 180kph as max number.

I did read that they stopped selling these olders models by 1997, so fits in to 1995 limit too

Honestly Chris... I was hovering over the ban button then

Have to say these are pretty tempting given the prices they are at the moment...

He has a point though, it's one of those cars that's bad in so many ways but atleast you're involved in the driving experience. So many moderns remove that element from the process which is why people use their mobile phones and get distracted by a myriad other things whilst driving, it's because they're bored sh*tless  Not that I condone phone usage, it's one my pet hates.

I'd agree with the Panda choice, a good size and not too trendy either like the Mini or Fiat 500.

Perhaps I was being a little bit harsh... because I wholeheartedly agree with the above... Also kinda agree on the Panda too as long as its the Panda 100

I totally agree on the R35, there is a japenese importer in town here who owns one and i saw this beast driving behind me last night and its a car i wanted to overtake me....the noise as it went past on full chat was unbelievable and stupidly quick. I have never seen acceleration like it!!

I always wanted an Evo, the 6 was one of my favourite cars when I was growing up but now I'm not so sure. I've had the run of a jap import WRX scoob (which is roughly UK STi, and I chipped it a while back too). It's blindingly quick and has amazing grip. And when it does let go, it'll go sideways in a whole different way to RWD and is hugely controllable. Problem is, to get it to the "fun" point you are doing at least a billionty miles an hour, I just couldn't have one as a road car and keep my license. For a stage rally car? Hell yeah, that and gravel would be amazing.

I really want a drive of a Suzuki Ignisisisis Sport thing, just to see what they are like. The reviews are good and it has my fishnet recaro's standard :D Tbh, the question is something I've been pondering for the last 12months, I daily Fake and she normally does something around 15,000miles a year. That was higher last year as I had a 70mile each way commute for a bit. I keep thinking I should get something sensible but, apart from the rust every MOT, now the new engine's in and I'm not trying to keep a 200,000mile renault lump going it's been really quite good. I struggle to think of something that would be as all round as Fake for sensible money, the nearest I can think of is an MGF with the awesome VVC system or an MX5, but I can't use it for lugging stuff about.

Oh, and Steve, are you really sure?

Good modern crap this may not be, but if the meaning of crap is the last dying cough of a once-famous british automotive legend, managed pretty much minus sales, was a total and complete white elephant, poorly thought out, planned and marketed, and bolted together by a bunch of dispirited brummies in a shed in Longbridge - then I think this ticks all the boxes'

Ladies and Gents, I give you the MG SV!

And I'd have one tomorrow.

Here we have a similar White Elephant. Bought to you by the same blue oval boys who's New Edge design philosophy gave the world the Ford Taurus, Ford frogface Scorpio and the Ford Ka....

The Ford Falcon AU.

Prospective Aussie buyers choked into their stubbies of VB and 4XXX, recoiled in horror, then promptly went and bought a Holden Commodore.... no pleasing some people....

I honestly believe there's a place in this world for such Automotive chod as this :)
