B200E tuning

Post by crazycat »

Hi there,

im interested in tuning my b200e (360 gle) for better economy and slightly more power.

i heard that conversion to lh2.4 jetronic and another camshaft will give me a much better economy but i dont exactly know which camshaft i'll need (one that gives more low-end torque == less fuel conumption) and which parts of the lh2.4 i will need and which car would be best to take the parts from

help and other suggestions would be appreciated

I'd run whatever cam you take the ECU from, for a base setup you want every thing equal.

FWIW, unless you are really attached to the engine a full swap with ensure that all parts are equal, LH flywheels I'm pretty certain have a different trigger pattern to LE so you might as well remove both anyway to make life easy.

It's a swap I was going to do to my old GLT, but certain people threatened me not to start another project ;) If you are just going to swap parts, find a late 2.0L 240, the loom is separate so much easier to plumb in. Fuel ECU, spark ECU, loom and if different flywheel. Injectors will likely to be different (flow rate and impedance need checking) plus a few bits I've probably not thought of in a quick 2min post ;)

Good cam for best fuel consumption would be the A cam. A fairly tame cam is what you need and the A fits the bill quite well but still giving reasonable performance.

If you can afford it MS would be a good way to go for optimum gain.

Other things you could do to improve effeciancy would be to convert to electric fan, Fit a free flowing exhaust systems to reduce pumping losses. A bit of head work would also be of some gain by fitting bigger exhaust valves and some porting work on the exhaust side. Raising the CR is a good way to improve consumption but is quite complexe to explain the ins and outs of how its done and how to make it work. A High CR engine is a for hardcore ultamate fuel consumtion but at the expense of top end power. All the other mods will improve both MPG and power.

The other thing is to reduce the resistance in teh drive line so correctly inflated tyres etc.
