1.4 Auto trouble

Hi, i got a 1.4 auto 340 for pretty cheap. But it has some running trouble, the idling is really bad it seems to surge up and down, and then also when im slowing down to a stop it cuts out. Runs ok when its not idling, i checked the carb bolts there all tight, the carb gasket wasnt in very good shape so i made one out of a weetabix box but that didnt change any thing. Any ideas im getting pretty fed up with it.

check the vacuum hoses for leaks/tears, sounds like you have a vacuum leak.

As above. There's loads of vacuum pipework. Check every last bit.

Cheers for the replys, i checked the hoses there all ok. Turned out it was the idle control thingy, removed it and replaced it with a bolt and its running ok.

Balls. Thats probably what was wrong with mine then.
