what engine fits in the 340 dl?

right .... i have a 1987 volvo 340 dl auto 1.4 with 60000 on the clock ,,,, have made more repairs than i can count and just when i think shes sorted, something else goes wrong,,

so have decided to just swap the engine for one in better condition.

does anyone know which ones are a direct swap and what kind of work is envolved, i figure while im at it i may as well go for a 1.6

also where to look for a replacement engine?

or if anyone knows where i can get hold of parts for the 1.4 engine?

parts needed are:

valves,
head gasket,
carb.

1700 Volvo turbo engines fit, as do Clio 1800 16v, Megane 2000 (F7R F7P) etc. Dunno about any 1600's though.

Search around mate. All the info you could ask for as this subject has been covered many times.

looking for a lil more power than you get from the 1.4 thats fitted but nothing too ambitious 1.6-1.8-2.0 would do me

oh yeah and im not realy wanting fuel injection (wouldnt know how to fit it)

I have a 35k 1.4 engine here taking up space??? Full working order.
