it went well the last few weeks, untill today...
coolant temp sender:
oil warning light + oil temp sender:
oil pressure sender:
exhaust line done including flex bit and V-band clamp for the downpipe;
downpipe support bracket
new air filter, with load of trouble for getting it to fit
everything going well, and i sent the downpipe, manifold, manifold support bracket, turbo oil return pipe and wastegate actuator bracket to get a special chemical clean to give the stainless a perfect finish.
this afternoon at lunch my dad had the bits in a box and after seeing the result i couldn't get a bite down the throat.
as you can see it turned out the flanges weren't stainless! since the chemical that the company uses is specifically for stainless steel, this hybrid-steel or whatever the fuck it is (possibly nikkled steel) simply got eaten away. it reduced 4mm in thickness and all mounting holes are twice as big; in other words it's completely useless now and literally means €500 through the drain as i can't use the support bracket, oil-return pipe and downpipe anymore aswell
next up is a bone stock 1.4, 1.7 or 2.0 that will drop straight in to get the car going again, turbocharged porn will be back at spring 2011; possibly with even more engine mods. i'm gonna fabricate everything from scratch, using lasercutted stainless flanges. was hoping to do 5th gear driting this winter but that won't happen for now i think
