he got a whale-tai!

started with polying the doorpanels;

new temporary tailgate as i will be modifying my own one.

engine bay so far;

and i played "choose the frontspoiler"

i don't like both of them as they are now, even with knowing that the front is going down another 2 inch or so. i allready have sheetmetal lying around for the sideskirts and i want a slightly more agressive / wider stance than the standard bodykit can offer. i'm gonna combine elements of the Mk2 and MK3 frontspoiler and recreate one of them to make it suit my taste.

at least my improvement point about intercooler getting more flow while driving worked out :lol:

Interesting to see the MkII spoiler fitted! I've got one of those without the foglamp holes, and I'm not convinced either TBH. I prefer the look of the MkIII style one.

Every time I see your engine bay, I feel pangs of guilt :oops: Have just got back from changing an air mass meter, mine is just filthy ...

Cheers

Have to say I actually like both versions of the front bodykit on that... either way I'm sure your version of one will be even better 8)

it went well the last few weeks, untill today...

coolant temp sender:

oil warning light + oil temp sender:

oil pressure sender:
Image

exhaust line done including flex bit and V-band clamp for the downpipe;
Image
Image

downpipe support bracket
Image

new air filter, with load of trouble for getting it to fit :lol:
Image

everything going well, and i sent the downpipe, manifold, manifold support bracket, turbo oil return pipe and wastegate actuator bracket to get a special chemical clean to give the stainless a perfect finish.
this afternoon at lunch my dad had the bits in a box and after seeing the result i couldn't get a bite down the throat.

as you can see it turned out the flanges weren't stainless! since the chemical that the company uses is specifically for stainless steel, this hybrid-steel or whatever the fuck it is (possibly nikkled steel) simply got eaten away. it reduced 4mm in thickness and all mounting holes are twice as big; in other words it's completely useless now and literally means €500 through the drain as i can't use the support bracket, oil-return pipe and downpipe anymore aswell :(

next up is a bone stock 1.4, 1.7 or 2.0 that will drop straight in to get the car going again, turbocharged porn will be back at spring 2011; possibly with even more engine mods. i'm gonna fabricate everything from scratch, using lasercutted stainless flanges. was hoping to do 5th gear driting this winter but that won't happen for now i think :lol:

That is really shit luck Anjo, what is stopping you cutting that flange off, bolting new flange to engine, bolt support bracket to engine and manifold to get it in the right position and tack the manifold to the new flange then reweld off the car? Or are there too many variables to get it all true? Maybe attach turbo exhaust etc, support it all with temporay supports to get it tacked?

That really is a shit, must have been some strong stuff they used! I know how much effort it takes to build a manifold like that, mine took long enough!

well, there really is no point fixing it. if it was a steel manifold i'd try it, but the stainless simply warps so much that any effort on doing that will result in something else needing to be cut-up for correct positioning like an endless chain of events..

besides that, the molecular structure of the stainless changed, and it definatly did not improve! the factory where they have the chemical cleaning also had to dispose of 1000L of fluid because it was contaminated with that frankenstein-steel, imagine what happend with the stainless itself..

besides that, the B14 is a bitch with the exhaust manifold and 3" downpipe with everything in the way down there., with perfect positioning i have less than a ¼ of an inch free space on the chassisbeam, rear engine mount and subframe , to do it right it really has to be done all over again.... it's too bad but to for my standards it simply is the only way.

the only thing good about this situation is that i can rethink the entire build, might get a funding project started involving stainless braces and take a start on the improved suspension. it even looks like i've allready found another B14 to drop in the engine bay, that will be something different with the setup of the car :D

i'm affraid not Nimminz, engine-wise it simply is on hold for now :(

but... i've got 250 parts ready for powdercoating, i can get going on the sideskirts, bumpers and frontspoiler, there's an interior waiting to finish polying and flocking, i still need to make a proper harness bar and i have a engine for the 343 that i'm rebuilding at the moment, final polish on the 343's doorhandle's so they can get chromed and many more things; so in a weird way this manifold-disaster is a good thing to get the listed items above finished to keep me busy this winter.

it also gives me a bit more time to rethink everything engine-wise. i still have a Gordini crossflow cylinderhead lying around wich needs a rebuild...........

early friday afternoon, B14.4T still in:
Image

friday afternoon:
Image

didn't go too easy, i had to make 1 good engine out of 2 wich even included drilling out broken tappets
Image

and here it is, late fridayafternoon.
Image

i even wired the rpm limiter/launchcontrol unit to this renix :D

yesterday i've done nothing on it because V3C had a technical day so very late this morning i connected the last coolant hose and filled it up, changed all ignition parts and got it running, a little vid from the first ride after that with a very enthousiastic Anjo behind the steering wheel :lol: :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpRxaLW4vjI
please don't comment about the out-of-bed look :lol: :lol:

later that afternoon i gave both the 343 and 340 non T a good wash and all i can say for now is that i don't want to see another 300 in a few days for now, i've totally had it :lol:
later this week a few small tweeks @ work, including a different carb as this one proved to be shit; connecting choke cable etc.

and my oh my what a big f*cking difference compared to the B14.4T's power, this thing is slow really. but, that's a good thing, will be a good motivation to get cracking on the B14.4T's new stainless manifolds again this winter!!!!!
