Konela Auto was official Lada reseller/importer in our country, they made that turbo conversion too, it is rare car here but certainly something else than average Lada

Russian taxis were Moskwitch cars when I were there last time, of course lot of Volgas too, Fuse was there just recently, maybe he knows what kind of taxis there are now?

Lada is not very nice to drive really, even article mentions otherwise, it has rather heavy steering and pedals are rather cramped, also driving position is rather weird, but it is simple to service and starts well in cold weather

Yes Chris I am A S/V70R does a bloody good job of blending refinement, performance, space, comfort and handle pretty well for a standard car too. That image just shows they're crap off the line, that's all

Oh yeah, I should really add in the MX5 too... the most responsive and involving car I've ever had to drive, and mine was 1995 too Space is the only factor really, I'd still have another one though.

Knee to arse measurement of mine is too large for MR2 and MX5, also shoulders come quite bit out from seat and with roof there is no hope to keep head straight, rather annoying really, but if one is bit smaller person, those cars offer lot of enjoyment.

I have seen S60R's with quite little money too, awd is always nice to have in our climate, but petrol costs of those cars is quite heavy really, there is quite bit of weight to haul around, also parking can be bit of problem at city where parking spots are designed to fit classic Mini Cooper barely inside markings.

I forgot one car, which I did remember now, it should have some place in your British hearts, again proper rwd

I'll add the Volvo S60. I got one as a hire car back in 2004, an unexpected upgrade as I was due an Astra or something equally dire, it was a diesel with leather interior, in-built sat nav etc and it was superb! I drove from London to Exeter in just over 2 hours IIRC...And it handled well on the twisty cornish B-roads. Not sure I'd want one to own though unless someone else was paying for it's upkeep.

I did sit today quite lengthy trip in some Primera, which was only few years old, it had nice front seat, very nice actually, I really did liked from that seat, also reversing camera was nice too, even lady driver did not even looked into that. I was very scared, lady driver could not drive smoothly on corners, jerking the wheel or something like that, she had no idea about speed control etc.

Car was quite noisy, especially at back where I also sit, no headroom at all.

Also it was badly put together, for example speedometer was accidentally installed bit side from wheel center point, I did not even know that such bad quality is today possible, but so it seems that they slap instrument clusters all over the dashboard, it is pure luck where it ends up to in car which you buy, I guess

Seat however was very nice, enough firm and enough soft at same time, no problem at all to sit long time.

Evo X, i simply adore those! a highpower japanese turbo(or twinturbo)-charged motor will probably be my next ride after i finish the 340Turbo and 343, Evo could be up but it will be a 7 or 8; or a skyline R33/R34; or a mk4 supra; jummy!

allthough i personally think there's nothing to "yuk" about; maybe it's engine. Nissan was just like Toyota very good with the 3-litre 6 in line engines! too bad they went to a V6 for this beast.

There's a few of these around where I live. My understanding is that the shift to the Vee-configuration is to ensure compliance with crash-worthiness regulations - something about the inline 6 being more likely to intrude into the passenger compartment. Which doesn't really explain why Beemers still use straight sixes then does it!

Lovely car, but heavy on gas and even with a 2.5L RB25DE engine a tad sluggish. Went back to the Primera, but in wagon form this time with the M6 CVT.

I havta say, that in spite of the 360 having 295KM on it and wallowing like a beached whale, it's a whole heap more fun to drive!

Now my french crap did it.

I was closing in to intersection, so I apply brakes and trrr-trrr-trrr ABS kicks in, almost no brakes at all, it was dry tarmac, so ABS thinks there is locked wheel when there is none and does not let me brake.

Modern gadgets, bah, I will take fuse out from it, that will solve this small authority issue I'm having with it.

I had a few Smarts between 2001 - 2007. They're good fun AND rear wheel drive but not particularly easy to mend. My wife had a Kia Picanto which was totally reliable and being the 1.1SE extremely well equipped and fairly nippy - she now has a Chevrolet Aveo (aka Daewoo Kalos with a Vauxhall engine) which is boring beyond belief with carpets which look as though they were bought from Wilkinsons and fitted by Stevie Wonder.

The Hindustan Ambassador is a definite yes as is the Zastava Skala 55 which is basically the same as my Yugo and only went out of production a couple of years ago. The only new car which I'm remotely tempted by is the Citroen DS3.
