Until a couple of years ago it was even possible to order a new key at the Volvo-dealer. For the old ones that isn't possible anymore, for the newer ones (MY '86 and on) it is still possible.

When you have the chassisnumber of the car, you could simply call the dealer and order the keys.

You need a very skilled lock smith to make a new key fit on an old lock... my lock smith (and he's even one of the award-winning ones of Holland) wasn't able to do the job (so unfortunately I have just one set of keys).

I've ordered a new key for my '88 daily only last year (or so) using the chassis no. so I can confirm that ...

I'll have a look in my classic car mags, there was a feature about locks recently and a company who could make keys for virtually anything, I'll try and dig it out ...

But Theo's hundreds of keys still sounds like the best bet

£35, wasn't cheap but I wanted to complete the set... I havn't a wallet key either but can make one of those

I was pretty surprised, was going to get a blank and get it cut, but NLA. However, cut ones, if you know your lock code (and your dealer will look it up if not) are pretty abundent seemingly and you have a bit of a chance.

Bad news got my garage broke in to the other day, could of been worse tho.
think it must of been some pikeys just getting scrap cause didnt nick any of my tools, luckily i think they must have been disturbed half way through nicking stuff cause they only got a few exhausts when i have about 60 in my garage , 3 volvo 440 alloys i was hoping to sell to evoman one day but left the fourth and nicked about 100 quids worth of car batteries.
but this is where its gets bad my dad had left the keys in ignition of my car outside the garage and if they wanted they could of just taken it but luckily they didnt, cause are village is quite quiet you dont really have to worry about cars getting stolen but im going to take this as a lesson and be grateful my cars still in my hands.

We got burgled a few weeks ago. They just took a bike (which was insured), but smashed a patio window in the process...proper pain in the arse!

Christ dude, that was lucky! My heart genuinely sank a bit when you said the keys to your motor where left there too. Then i read on a bit. Glad they didnt.

You are lucky you still have the car. A while back someone broke into the garages round our way
and smashed up a blokes three motorbikes. F*****g scumbags. Luckly they left my garage alone.

I'd get an extra steering/pedal type lock or cheap wheel clamp so they can't move it out of the drive (leave the wheel turned on full lock too). 300's must be so easy to hot wire and I'm sure the standard steering locks easy to break. When I lost my 440 keys (and couldn't get some cut) I broke off the lock barrel and hot wired it. It was more like gone in 60 minutes but then again it was my first offence I'm sure the experts would be less than 60 seconds! If you intend leaving it unused for long periods of time take a wheel off and hide the nuts, anything to slow them down!
