Hey there
My cam belt snapped the other day, piston heads are ok but needs a new cylinder head. I know the 1.7 was a renault motor originally but what models? I think it'd probably be easier to find an old renault at scrapyard than another 340.

The 1.7 engine was used in the Renault 21, Renault 9 and 11, Renault 5 (TXE and GTX) and possibly early Renault 19.
I wouldn't think any of them are particularly common in breakers yards nowadays though.

Some versions of Megane have what looks to be the same head, though I couldn't confirm it. I'd imagine the cam etc are different certainly. Same with the 400 series Volvos though I know the cam is different on those, I dont know what else is.
The megane has a cool coil pack setup on it too, would like to see that on a 300, prolly means it's no good for you without a bit of work those as no dizzy

I have a spare 1.7 head if you're interested. It came from a running engine although I don't know how good an engine it was (bought for 16 valve conversion parts). I'll have a look at it at the weekend.
