Gearbox & torque tube

Post by samueljon »

isit possiable to run the 360 gear box and torque tube off the 340 bell housing?
if not isit a case of swapping the bellhousing over to a 360 aswell? (its to fit a f7p engine)

No as far as I know. Also. the 360s have volvo engines, so again, no the bellhousing wont just mate up. I guess you'd have to get a custom one made up if you wanted to do that. Sort of defeats the point of swapping the boxes over etc, as the tube is "stronger". I'd just get a stronger prop made.

ye i thought about the engine difference as soon as i hit send, would be a case of re-drilling holes to suit i suppose.

there isnt a stronger prop floating about is there? just think its a weak link in the 340s

Nowt stronger that exists. It definatly pays to get the engine aligned correctly with the 'box in the mountings, as there'll be less tension on the prop. Unfortunately, theres no aftermarket replacement, hence the custom one is your only bet.

spent ages getting it linned up :)
just a shame bullet proof cars (unless you hit a kerb that kills them) and its just the weak link

custom prop would cost abomb i suppose :(

Yeah proper shame! I haven't looked into custom props yet, but I will do soon. If we order together someone might give us a discount. Need to do some research first though.

Jon, had a quick thought if you where to uprate the prop some how would it not just move it to the next weak spot which would be the box?

I've heard rumours about a 240 drivetrain being a viable option. You just need to fab up some custom adapter bits.

the biggest weakness in a 300's driveline is the diff imo. welding it solves a whole lot of issues but you would want to take the impractical consequences for granted. the gearbox will hold quite a bit, up to 250bhp and maybe even more. mainly depends on how wise (or not) the driver uses the power.

well the car is going to be used for drifting/track daying.
the diff is welded, f7's make around 160-170bhp so no where near the 250bhp mark with the gear box

avoided clutch kicking in the grey car as i was worried about the prop and its girly rubber bushes
